Weird experience.
My date and I started by ordering drinks. A few minutes later, we decided what food to get. She ordered the hummus, I ordered the chicken pot pie. The drinks came out like normal, however, at least 20 minutes go by and I notice the table near us who arrived after us had already gotten their food.
How long does it take for hummus and a pot pie? Not 20+ minutes.
I then asked the waitress what the ETA would be for our food and she says it’ll be out soon. A couple minutes late she comes back to the table and says the order was actually never put it the system….great.
Food came out a few minutes later and it tasted pretty good. I ended up having a bit of a spill, though, so I cleaned it up, explained what happened, and asked the server for another napkin. Surprise, surprise, she never actually came back with another one so I ended up just using the same one my date was using.
Food was good once it finally came out but if I hadn’t asked for an ETA who knows how long it would’ve taken for them to notice. On top of that, there was absolutely no acknowledgment on their part of the mistakes or the inconvenience. I’d never expect anything for free, but you’d expect SOMETHING to be done given the subpar service.
All around odd experience and I likely won’t be back...
Read moreThis was a nice quiet pub my family and I went to on a Saturday for lunch. I had a pulled pork sandwich which was good and my mom had a pretty good looking burger. Tater tots are always a plus. Our waitress was good natured and great.
I gotta say though, I was a little disappointed in the decor. You'd think that being the oldest continually running liquor establishment in Chicago, they might capitalize on that history a bit more and maybe have some pictures up from back in the day. I was kinda hoping for a place maybe more similar to Twin Anchors or Schubas or something, but this place was pretty plain.
My sister remarked that perhaps they don't care about all that historic flim-flam and just like being a nice neighborhood pub, which they totally are. I'm just saying if you are going there hoping to eat and drink in a place that screams roaring 20s, prohibition speak-easys, and Al Capone, perhaps put that out of your mind and just be prepared to enjoy good food and drink with...
Read moreThis is our neighborhood bar and grill. Think of it accordingly. It is a place to go for a beer with friends or a dinner with the family. Lots of families hang out here. The beer list is good and they have a good tap rotation.
The food is very good pub food. My suggestion is the Chicken Pot Pie. The place is known for the pie and rightfully so. Unfortunately, they do not have it all year round, and as it is popular will often run out.
Other good meals here are the Pull Pork sandwiches, the Eggplant Napoleon and the Beef Bourgeon
My teenaged sons like the hamburgers best and they are good.
The place has an Old Town charm and history. It claims to be the oldest continuously operating tavern in Chicago, though there was a slight gap in the 2000s when new owners were having a dispute with the City. It was a speakeasy during Prohibition but had its most notoriety when Marge Lednick ran it starting in...
