Hometown BBQ is a mixed bag. We ordered two plates takeout. One was the grilled chicken breast lemon pepper seasoned with fried green tomatoes and collard greens. The second plate ordered was the half smoked chicken with broccoli and Brussel sprouts. The sides come out the winner here hands down! The fried green tomatoes are better by far than across the street at Good Ole Boys. However, the meat at this barbecue location is absolutely horrible! The chicken breast for the chicken breast plate was a nice piece of meat and and juicy however, it was also coded in a ton of some kind of nasty greasy oil! I had to literally wash it off before I could eat it. Again thankfully the sides were delicious. As for the smoked chicken plate the brussel sprouts were perfect spot on. He didn't get the broccoli he wanted instead it was a mix of carrots and cauliflower and broccoli and he doesn't care for carrots at all and isn't really a fan of cauliflower and it was extremely overcooked like maybe it was reheated leftovers from yesterday he said it was very rubbery and absolutely inedible. Then the smoked chicken was a bit on the dry side and he said it was so salty it tasted like it had been marinated for 48 hours in saltwater before they did anything with it. I tried a piece of it without the skin and he's right it was salty as hell on the inside! Really gross! The lady taking the order was super nice. Also when I called last night to verify they were open on Sunday because we're from out of town I was told to open at 10:30 but when we got there at 10:30 the door was open but a guy that was there an older fellow told us they didn't open till 11:00 and we'd have to wait. So we waited in the parking lot no problem, but it's a shame that the employee we talked with on the phone the night before I didn't actually know what time they opened. :-( if I was back through here again at a meal time I might would stop for a veggie plate with a fried green tomatoes, Brussel sprouts, and collard greens if they offered that sort of option. Their menu doesn't indicate they do. Otherwise I wouldn't eat any of the meat from here. And while I sat waiting I watched the youngest girl there sniffling in the Cook Area like she had a cold or was sick and picking her nose and sticking her fingers in her mouth. Thank God she put on gloves before she handled anybody's food but she didn't wash her hands. So someone's review saying they got sick after eating here might be legit and the employees definitely need some Public...

I don't know if it would be possible to find a more aptly named place. Everything about it was the quintessential small-town diner that still cranks out honest food for the home folks who haven't left it behind. Nothing was new here, but it felt comfortable.

They say their barbecue is cooked on hickory wood, and the chopped pork didn't make me doubt that. I generally prefer pork to be pulled, but theirs was done well enough to make it enjoyable. It still needed some sauce to moisten it though. Fortunately they had an adequate one.

Their brisket was another story. It didn't have a big smoke flavor, but the biggest issue was that it seemed to have been reheated and consequently was pretty dried out. The thin slices didn't help in that regard either.

The sides were where they really shone. We supplemented the 2 meat platter we shared (which was enough for the 2 of us) with fried okra and potato salad. The potato salad was definitely homemade, and the okra might have been as well. Both were as well done as any I've had.

This was definitely an enjoyable meal, though the meats left a little to be desired. To be fair, they also offer a wide selection of burgers and other items on their menu so they aren't only a barbecue place. This wouldn't be a destination visit, but if you're passing through and looking for a home style meal, you will probably be...

Very disappointed!! I ordered a to go order of 2 bbq sandwiches and a fry and they told me it would be 10 minutes, well I got there 20 minutes later because they always take longer then they say and I still had to wait 30 more minutes! The lady kept telling me we are fixing yours next then a person would walk in and order and they would fix there food and give it to them and so on it’s like they purposely made me wait 50 minutes on 2 sandwiches and frys . Me and my family spend good money there but we will not be back . There owners really need to let there employees know how to act and that if there was a To go order made there’s should be made when they said or atleast a reasonable difference not let everyone who came in in the 30 minutes I was there get there food they literally had just ordered !! Very very...

We decided to try this place due to reviews. My family loved it. Good portions. The staff was amazing with my overly excited and exhausted kids. We ordered two bbq plates with baked beans, potato salad, okra and corn nuggets. DELICIOUS. The kids got their traditional kids meals and ate it all. Everything was clean and food came out in decent time. When we visit the area again we will be back.

Quaint little place with amazing food! *Updated with new photos from today* my team and I (ROTN reviews) stop by here quite frequently and the food is always perfect. Pictured is their famous 'tater bombs which I could not wait to dig into. They're key lime pie with raspberry drizzle, and the potato soup with a grilled cheese. This place is always super clean with top notch friendly staff.
