Reading some other reviews I felt like I needed to review this place. If you want a legit taqueria you found it. If you're looking for something akin to Chipotle you're in the wrong place. Definitely reminds me of the taquerias in Mexico.
First things first, lets talk about the elephant in the room - the price. This place isn't cheap, but you get what you pay for. If you want cheap tacos there is a plethora of places that you can find .99 Taco Tuesdays/$1/$1.50 tacos. I am in the camp that is willing to pay for good quality food - if I want carne asada that has been minced down to tiny bits because it's low quality and tough then I know where to find those places - I'm sure you do too. If you haven't already, you should be questioning the type of meats that are used and corners that are cut in order to get .89 cent tacos. At $2.89 a taco though, this place is on the pricier side for cheap tacos but spot on for a good taco. Now that's out of the way... here we go.
Tacos are loaded Tacos meat isn't minced up Tacos are served plain (onions/cilantro/salsa at salsa bar) Tacos also come with chips, grilled chilis, and grilled onions Great salsa selection (The El Rey salsa is very good) Great topping selection (diced onions, cut up whole onions, cilantro, limes, etc) BIG salsa containers (not cheap with the salsa, get as much as you want) Crispy Tripe Tacos are to die for Al Pastor has caramelized onions and pineapple pieces Carne Asada comes in chunks and not minced
I have not tried their tortas yet but one torta looks big enough to feed a...
Read moreMy husband and I have been eating here for 13 years and never had a bad experience until this last time I went there. They never used to mix the onion and cilantro in their condiment bar. They have ALWAYS been separated. My husband is allergic to onions and I asked them if I can have the cilantro by itself. Their response was, "No we don't do that!" Since when?! I asked why and I should be able to because of a food allergy. Then she said, "I only work here." Insensitive and inconsiderate pieces of s""t!! I already ordered and got my salsa and lemons. I saw they had them together and went up to the cashier and even the cooks. 1 cook ignored me and the other one pretended he didn't know English. RUDE!!! Stop being cheap your food is over priced and you can afford to give me enough cilantro for 3 god damn tacos. They kept saying little jabs which I believe is horrible customer service. It shouldn't matter if a customer has an allergy they should care and cater to their customers to keep them happy. Hopefully the company evaluates these employees poor attitudes and does something. Even the owner pretends to not be the owner and not know English. Sounds like he doesn't care about his customers either. Go back to Hospitality and business school and get a better customer service degree! Haven't you heard the customers...
Read moreQUE BUENO QUE ABOFETEARAS A TU EX- MARIDO Y A SU NUEVA ESPOSA! Best Tortas in town!!! I stepped foot in El Rey in 2013 and have been a loyal customer since! Today one of my favorite vendors, brought in lunch from El Rey. ¡Besos de Lil Rob! I was so excited!!! Thier tortas are the size of a new born baby! Their pickled onions, hot carrots & jalapeños are my favorite condiments that they make on site (not canned)! While today’s lunch was delivered, El Rey did not forget to include them with the meal. Gracias El Rey! If you go in the restaurant expect to be slapped with delicious aroma of all the meats being grilled! While you wait, you can fill your panza with fresh frijoles in pot next to the salsa bar! Back to my review of the tortas (see photos). They’re filled with meat as juicy as a novela! The variety of tortas was amazing! These aren’t your typical tortas, they have special ones like the Cubano (one of my favorites), Americano, El Rey and codiciada (that’s what I had today)! I’m still on my stupid weight loss journey, so I only ate half of my torta, which was and always is enough to fill me up. The tortas are so good, I usually will eat a whole one despite being full, hence the weight loss journey! ¡HOY NO SATANAS! GRACIAS, El Rey! Ps. I wear a size medium women’s t-shirt, I sure would love an El Rey...
