On Friday 4/26, I had one of the worst experiences with a manager tonight, not only of all 50+ breweries that we've been to, but of all businesses in general. My girlfriend and I decided to make the trek from Coon Rapids tonight to visit this fairly new brewery. When we first got there, we were very pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere (lots of different size tables for both large/small groups - something that can't be said at all breweries). We tried both IPA's that they had on tap (Shapshifter & Hooksetter), which we both really enjoyed. Next, we tried a tulip of the Peanut Gallery Porter (Peanut butter porter) and the Fish House Stout (only because they were out of the Chocolate Cherry Stout).
We enjoyed the Peanut Gallery stout so much that we wanted to get a growler (which we NEVER do). Seeing that a growler was only $10 +$5 deposit, we decided to get 2 growlers (one for us, and one for my gf's dad who is a huge brewery & stout drinker). When we paid, I realized that we got mischarged for the growlers. They charged us $20 + $5 deposit per growler, bringing our bill much higher than we expected. After bringing up that concern to Tyler (one of the beertenders), he agreed that there was a misprint on their menu and said that they are normally $20 each. He followed that up by saying that they had noticed the misprint earlier in the day, but thought they had removed all of those menu's. I asked if they'd be willing to honor the price that we saw on our menu because that's the reason we decided to order 2 growlers. He was very polite and said that he would have to verify with his manager to see how to handle it. That's when the entire experience went from a 5 to a 0 star.
The manager came over and said "No, the price is $20 per growler. That beer is much too expensive to brew to sell it for $10." I followed that by asking if they would be willing to honor the price on the menu because the misprint was not our mistake. She responded by saying "Fine, take the beer and growler, I don't care" and marched off to the bathroom. The folks next to us (From North Dakota) looked at me in awe that she handled the situation so poorly. I had tried to reason with Tyler and asked if I could return one of the unopened growlers and get our $25 back. He said their system does not allow them to do refunds. I said, okay, how about we get $20 in gift cards to compensate for the $10 discrepancy in the mis-print price and we'll come back and spend more money. He agreed that was fair and said he would again have to ask the manager on how to do that. After the manager got back behind the bar, they opened up the drawer & Tyler placed a $10 bill in front of me and asked if this would work. I explained to him that it was a $10 discrepancy on each growler and that we got 2 of them, which equates to $20 total. He agreed and turned around to talk to the manager again. The manager reached in the till again, took $10 and literally crumpled it up and threw it on the counter in front of me. She then followed it by saying "There, you have your beer, you have your growler, now get out of here!! Please leave!!"
I said "Excuse me?" She said "You handled that situation very poorly and was extremely rude!" I said "How was I rude? I was simply asking to have you honor the prices on your menu." As she was literally yelling across the brewery, with other customers there to hear the entire situation, she followed it again by saying "Get out of here, please leave, I don't want you here anymore."
I called after we left and asked for the managers name, but Tyler said "Um..." then hung up on me.
I gladly left the premises and can safely say that I, nor any of my friends, will ever step foot in there ever again. All that over $20 which was a mis-print on their menu that they didn't want to honor. I guarantee that the $20 that she threw such a stink over, will turn into much more lost profits purely based on my word of mouth and for the fact that we will never go back there. I sure hope that $20 fight...
Read moreWas planning to wait until Mid-January to give them a month under their belts before checking it out. However, had a little time so checked it out between Christmas and New Years. Space seems cramped when it is busy-we were there at 5:30 pm on a Friday-it was busy and it was cramped. Thankfully we knew some others there so found 2 chairs to join them at their table-otherwise we would have ended up standing (which would have been okay too-not the best, but okay). We ordered a blonde ale and the nut brown ale-we got two blonde ales-in larger glasses--bartender didn't ask what size we wanted and we didn't see the flight listed so didn't think to ask for that option. Current options for food are to know what local places order for delivery-they do offer pretzels. All in all I guess waiting would have been worthwhile--will for sure check it out again and it is a good addition...
Read moreBig fan of the venue. They're welcoming, dog friendly. The summer offers a great patio. Their taproom has tons of seating. They have food trucks often, in-house snacks including pizza. You can bring outside food (just be respectful and clean it up).
We come here for many reasons: beers with friends, for jiujitsu events, for craft fairs. We've tried to join bingo but it's popular and we showed up too late! Trivia too!
Long story short: don't sleep on this gem of a local brewery. They're awesome. From their flagship cream ale, to Hang Tang, to IPAs, seltzers, stouts, and barrel-aged beers — and non-alcoholic options too. They've got something for everyone.
We've been happy to come here since 2019 and we repeatedly visit for the beer, the service, and the Loon Crew...
