If you're hankering for a down-home cooked meal without the frills or pretentiousness, welcome home. Dutch Pantry will make you curse the person who brought you because you will eat so much your pants won't fit and you'll jump across that line from full to what-is-this-Thanksgiving? Curse-this-lack-of-self-control!! Now, level set those expectations. It's not fancy. There's no service to speak of. The staff is really heads-down-and-get-to-work type of people. There's no smiling come to think of it and don't wait for them to ask you if you're enjoying your meal. They won't. They're Amish. Maybe that's there schtick. I couldn't care less either way. I'm there to eat, not to make besties. There's often a line at meal times. A long one. It's. Totally. Worth. It. We often come on Friday or Saturday and they have the same food week in and week out. Every single day. In fact, that's one of the reasons I docked the star. They have the most amazing pot roast beef but I believe that's on a Thursday so we always miss it. Instead, we always seem to be there for fried chicken day. See? No hardship. The chicken is ok, but one of my least favorite items because all but one time the chicken has been terribly dry. But that's ok, they have gravy! Problem/solution. The homemade rolls are the absolute best. They really are to die for. Yeast rolls hot from the oven. The rest of the side dishes are also very good - potatoes and gravy, corn, green beans, homemade noodles, baked beans, it's all really delicious. But the best part? Maybe you should sit down. There's a pie bar. Oh yes, you read that right. A PIE BAR!!! Chocolate, coconut cream, custard, peanut butter, and pecan (and sometimes the pecan pies is made with small pieces of pecans and not that giant hunks of a full-sized nut and it sounds crazy, but it is SO MUCH BETTER! That's right, it deserves to be in all caps). My fiance and I try to drive over to Oklahoma from Arkansas (now doesn't that tell ya something. We're willing to cross state lines!!!) about every other month to get our Dutch Pantry fix. But don't take my word for it. Wait until you're close to starving to death and check it out. You won't be...
Read moreVisited on 7/19/24 when we were headed back home. My sister & I have eaten here many times & look forward to visiting here even though it's 2 hours from where we live. We both like the salad bar because the lettuce is chopped up very fine & doesn't have spinach or kale in it. The salad bar has a variety of choices to choose from. The special of the day was Meatloaf & Catfish. I liked the meatloaf because it was very moist & didn't have any strange topping on it. We both are picky about our meatloaf & joke about it whenever we go out to eat & see it on a menu. I didn't try the catfish because I don't eat catfish but a lot of people were eating it the day we went. There was also ham on the buffet, mashed potatoes & gravy which were all good. There are a lot of choices on the buffet for even the pickiest eaters. The yeast rolls are so delicious & remind us of the rolls our mom & grandma made all the time.
We both tried the chocolate pie & it was delicious. There are SOOO MANY desserts on the buffet it's hard to pick just what you want to eat. I asked one of the girls where the watermelon came from & she said it was from a local farmer in the area. It was ice cold, bright red without seeds. The best kind to eat. It reminded us of the ice cold watermelons our grandma used to grow when we were growing up, it was that good.
We went to eat late on a Friday afternoon & there were quite a few people eating but the line went quickly. We are looking forward to visiting again. Keep in mind, they accept cards but there is a small Non-Cash Charge if using a card. There is discount if you use...
Read moreWe had high expectations about Dutch Pantry based on other reviews. As an Ohio native I’ve always been a huge fan of Amish and Mennonite cooking. Our overall experience was very disappointing.
We chose a Wednesday night as Fried Chicken was the featured entree. It, along with all the “hot” foods, was served on a steam table buffet. The chicken was partially covered. It was lukewarm at best and the skin was soggy. There was also an entree that looked like left over chicken fried steak cut up in chunks and served in a goopy white gravy. Both mains weren’t good at all lacking seasoning. Our group of 7, including some native Tulsans, all had the same opinion.
There were some great food items matching other reviews I had read. The creamed corn, the yeast dinner rolls and the wide selection of homemade pies and bars were all delicious. The cold salad bar was also good and had great variety.
Unlike most buffets it was completely self serve. You got your own drinks and refills, empty dishes remained stacked on the table and no one checked in on you.
I hate giving bad reviews almost as much as I hate eating a bad meal. My search for great fried chicken continues, but I wouldn’t hesitate to order their pies and dinner rolls here for holiday...
