Nettie Ann's is my go to place for pies, cobblers, cheeses, and other farm fresh favorites. It is a large retail space with three sections - the bakery, the deli, and the cafe. In the bakery, everything is good. I particularly recommend the cobblers and crisps - they are an amazing value and the taste absolutely rivals the best homemade at a price that barely amounts to more than it would cost you to make it at home. In the deli, they have a very nice assortment of meats and cheeses as well as other refrigerated products such as cinnamon butter, fresh churned butter, and so on. There are also several aisles of dried goods including many wonderful mixes for ready to assemble soups, salsas, cookies, breads, and so on. Also an aisle of pickled products (cucumbers, artichokes, okra, beets, etc). I never fail to find something new and interesting and everyone is extremely friendly and helpful. The Amish cook the old fashioned way without preservatives and from scratch.
Woopie Pies with their light creamy filling unlike most you find manufactured around the country is a must for us. They sell out quickly so its best to call a day ahead to make an order. We also find various sugar free cookies and baked goods like banana nut bread to bring home and freeze for later.
When you pickup breads and rolls you can feel the difference between the fresh baked and store bought. I noticed some of the breads were tagged for discounts so you know if its fresh or a day or 2 old.
A freezer displayed desserts to take home and serve later with a nice variety of selections. Located in the same building with Amish Cheese House, they are separate businesses but connected.
If you like fresh bakery foods, make this a stop if passing...
Read moreWe absolutely love this place. It's our mid-point on our drive from Dallas to St. Louis. Everything they do is high quality, friendly, and good customer service. Try the casseroles to go - my wife bought a mexican enchilada like casserole and it was terrific. Sandwiches are amazing - nice, fresh ingredients vs. just stopping at fast food. I can't say enough about how much we (and esp. my wife) likes this place. We actually don't drive home to Dallas on Sunday's because it's closed on Sundays! :-) Thank you Amish Cheese Shop and the Bakery!!...
