Upon arrival to El Bronco on the evening of 12/20/22, there wasn't any available parking (I took this as a sign that either we shouldn't attempt to dine here, or it was an absolute must - we took our chances). When we walked in and got more of the lay of the land, every table was filled (on a Wednesday!) Turnover was quick though, and as a party of five we were somewhat easily accommodated by a booth for four, with an extra chair on the end. Along with the de riguer complimentary chips and salsa, they also provided us with the "white sauce" that nobody seems to know the name of, but seems to have become a staple in a lot American Tex-Mex restaurants. I think one of the true tests of a Tex-Mex joint are the margaritas, which I skipped this visit due to my already having over indulged in sweets that seem to be inescapable during the holiday season. One of my dining companions however ordered a Jumbo Lime and she said it was close, but still not quite as good as the Margaritas at El Rodeo on N. Main in Blacksburg, which is our go-to for Margaritas and the gold standard against which all others are measured. (Go see the owner Saul and tell him I sent you.) Their (El Broncos) Jumbo, however, is not as Jumbo as some. I ordered the Fajitas Marinas which is, as you can probably guess, the seafood fajitas, which includes tilapia, shrimp, and scallops. They came out sizzling, and once I let things cool down and dove in, I found that everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly. I took my time to savor every bite, and there were a lot of bites due to the generous portions, especially of the fish. Due to the restaurant being full, the service was a bit slower as you would expect, but not painfully so by any means and it was never an issue. I imagine most of the time this isn't remotely an issue. From this point on, El Bronco is my default Christiansburg...
Read moreI usually don't order from third party because I know they charge fees. But what I do want to say is that I live in a town called Harrisonburg Virginia located about 2 hours away from Christiansburg Virginia where this restaurant El bronco Mexican bar and grill is located. I made a quick stop before heading to my destination not knowing of what I was about to discover. I am very very difficult to please when it comes to Mexican dining. Because of the fact that I'm born in Texas and no what real authentic Mexican food tastes like looks like and I believe that everywhere I have gone as far as Maryland Georgia Virginia Mississippi Alabama Louisiana Louisiana Florida Kansas have ever sat there while eating my food and thought oh my gosh this tastes like my grandmother's cooking or my mother's cooking or just brings back memories from Texas. And that is exactly what I have found here at El bronco Mexican bar and grill. It has taken me back to in time and I can't begin to tell you how happy I am to have finally found a place that actually creates authenticity. It does not matter how many hours I have to drive I will be coming back as much as I can and just letting anyone and everyone know about this amazing place thank you El bronco Mexican bar and grill...
