Visited on a Friday night around 7 and the place was crowded! There are 3-4 high top tables in the room where the wine taps are (and with all the amazing bottle racks!), otherwise there is seating around the bar and some high tops next to the bar in the other room but I definitely recommend sitting in the room with the wine taps!
When you arrive you hand over a credit card and get an EMMA card that you use to get the pours of wine. The card automatically tracks your usage and you pay at the very end.
There were 4 men who work there going around talking about all the wines - together they have over 150 years experience in wine!
What was super helpful to know is that if the machine under pours your glass you only get charged for the amount poured, not the entire pour cost.
Now to the wine - there are 40 taps with a mix of red and whites sorted by type - there were more reds when I went and I assume that's because it is winter. The bottles are also arranged by origin - France, Spain, Italy, California, etc. which makes it easy to find what you want.
There are 3 options to choose from - 1 Oz, 3 Oz, and 6 Oz pours. We tried 5 different "tastes" or the 1 Oz pours - each was $2-$5 for the taste. Once we found one we liked we decided to go for the half pour 3 Oz which was $5-10.
Some of the wines they had there were SO GOOD. I fell in love with one of their more expensive Spanish Reds on tap (might be dangerous for me in the future!) but I can say I'll definitely be back ark expose my self to these great wines.
Overall this was a very fun experience - I got to try multiple wines and in a cool and inviting environment. You can also bring in food! We ordered from Hi-Mark next door but others were using door dash to bring in some dinner. They mentioned in the future they'll have some small plates but for now it's greatly appreciated you can bring food in.
Definitely check this place out if you're a wine lover - such a...
Read moreI have tried this type of wine bar concept several times prior to visiting this one. This is the first one I've been to where they hold my credit/debit card which was off-putting. Staff were eager to help.
Space is quite small and feels even smaller on a Friday night when I visited. If you're looking for a place to sit on a busy night there's a high chance you'll be out of luck.
As for their selections...there wasn't a lot of white or sweet wines. Lots of reds. Lots of dry. Lots of bitter. I left disappointed. Unless their variety expands, I won't...
Read moreEMMA is a spot we wish we would have found years ago. We arrived looking for a wine bar and left having found one of our favorite spots in the city. I'm convinced that if EMMA was walkable from downtown, it would be a multi-million dollar business: the concept is so cool and they do an amazing job making the space unique and fun. I could go here with a date just as easily as I could with friends or relatives from out of town. The prices were amazing too. Thank you for the great times, EMMA. We...
