In the year or so that The Hi-Mark has been opened, I’ve visited the bar/restaurant three times. The first time was with my entire family, parents, and brother. This included the kids, which struggled to find something that they wanted to eat from the menu. It’s not a kid friendly menu, but the space is not entire kid unfriendly either.
My second visit was with a couple of friends on our way to a FC Cincinnati match. And my most recent visit was with my wife when we needed a quick meal before an event downtown. I ordered the Pulled Pork Bánh Mì on both my first and most recent visit ($9 with fries). This delicious sandwich features Eli’s smoked pork, do chua, cucumber, BBQ sauce, cilantro, green onion, and optional jalapenos. Eli’s pork is some of the best around and it really stands out on this sandwich, but the other ingredients help to reinvent the classic smoky taste.
I’ve also had the fried chicken sandwich and the grilled chicken torta ($9 each with crinkle fries on the side). The fry sauce that comes on the fried chicken sandwich is awesome and comes on the side with the crinkle fries. While both of these sandwiches are good options, it is hard to beat the Bánh Mì.
The crinkle fries can also be loaded for an additional $2. This adds Psychobeer cheese, cheddar, sour cream, bacon, tomato, and green onion. Honestly I think the fries are best served plain with the fry sauce on the side. The fried pickles can also be served with the fry sauce, which I highly recommend. I guess what I’m saying is to get the fry sauce is one way or another!
The Hi-Mark also features some great cocktails, the Horse’s Neck is one of our favorites – bourbon, bitters, ginger beer ($6 for well). They also have a dozen mostly local draft beers on tap, plus a tons of bottles, cans, and wines by the glass or bottle. It is a great place for a quick...
Read moreThe good is amazing. Beer selection is top par. The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is this; The past few times I’ve been there with my family I’ve had totally different experiences. The 2 younger girl servers are great at their job. Friendly, social, nice to my kids. Talkative and outgoing, singing, telling jokes. Can’t remember names. One has shoulder length brown hair the other long red hair. They seem to really enjoy what they do. I was there with friends about 3 weeks ago and the brown haired girl was there with a different girl, long kind of curly brown hair. She hates her job. She changed to whole vibe of the bar. Bad attitude. Acted like she was being bothered when anyone needed anything. Drinking ALOT. Smells like an ashtray. She seems like she hates the world and doesn’t care who knows it. She was there when we were there last time as well. We made sure to stear clear and seaked out service from the other girl(red hair) Word of advice m: if you want to have a great bar and not a mediocre one, keep the staff who keep the environment that you want. The other one makes us uncomfortable and unwelcome Adam L:...
Read moreThe bartender/ server had an attitude from the time we were greeted. We were told we couldn’t eat there because they were full even though there was clearly an open table. He then took an extremely long time to look at all of our ID’s. He bent them and folded them. We are all 25 years old. He came back with our drinks and said he couldn’t serve us because of a barely expired ID which I have not been able to update because of work and covid. He was extremely rude as we left the establishment.
I have been going to hi mark basically since they opened and after covid, the place has really gone down hill. Food is awful compared to when it first opened and seems like no one cares about the customers anymore. Because of that I’m not super surprised by this encounter. I hope the best for the workers and the owner, but this is no way to treat people.
I won’t...
