Read moreI read online that this place was a gem! I would not go back. Not all it's hyped up to be . We were so excited to go for the Gator bites . The price of the small amount they serve was $14 and they mix them by weight with fried jalopeno so that was disappointing. I showed the waitress the pic from google of the Swampwater drink, she said yes and you keep the cup it comes in . So I thought I would have a fun souvenir... it was a basic glass jar for $15 . Like seriously? . The tomahawk Pork chop was tough and dry as dirt. $28 No joke. We order oyster as well ... can't say much about oysters but they are better with valentine sauce and the bread that comes with the oyster plate looks so buttery and moist however, when I went to take a bite, it was as hard and stale as cardboard. 2 orders Shrimp skewers at $15 each shrimp was cold . My kids ordered a kids meal basic cheeseburger and fries was probly the most decent thing in the table . Salad with ranch was good. Maybe other items on the menu would have been better but what we ordered and what we expected ...and what we got was a let down and the price was a punch to the gut . Atmosphere was pleasant a lot of people seemed to enjoy the place. We did not complain about the food to our waitress as we could tell that she was doing her best. This is just my honest review and it's not a place I would brag about...
Read moreThe large, somewhat "divey" (in the best way) is inviting and cozy, despite it's size. The menu is repleat with cajun and creole classics that immediately tempted my tastebuds. We ordered two appetizers; the gator bites with crispy fried jalapeno slices and nuggets of alligator meat nicely seasoned with a spicey remoulade for dipping, and the smoked jalapeno poppers filled with chorizo and cream cheese, wrapped in bacon and smoked. They're then battered and fried to a perfect crispy crunch. They're enormous and oh so good. I ordered the Swamp Pasta, which is loaded with generous amounts of crab, anduoille sausage, and crawfish with a skewer of cajun grilled shrimp on top. The sauce was cheesy yet creamy with a touch of sweetness from the shallots, mushrooms and a splash of white wine. Also ordered a side of collard greens which were arguably the best ever. Couldn't stop eating them. This place is hands down the best creole/cajun restaurant anywhere in the tri-state area. Portions are generous, obviously scratch-made, and not overseasoned, unlike the more expensive place in Covington with the played-out, oversalted menu stuck in the 90's. If you want a taste of authentic...
