The brisket here is excellent, so moist and flavorful that sauce is not required. I tried all three sauces, and they were all good, but I used them sparingly, to avoid overpowering the wonderful flavor of the meat. The coleslaw was very good. It seemed to be dressed with oil and vinegar, and had finely chopped celery and onion in addition to the common cabbage and carrot. Potato salad was good, too. Staff were friendly and helpful. The fountain beverages were Fountainhead brand. I sampled a little of several flavors, and they were all tasty.
The restaurant is housed in a classy old building at the corner of Cedar and Hamilton. Inside, it looks fresh and clean and modern, in furnishing, decor, and equipment. There are about a half dozen tables for those who dine in, but I was the only one doing so at lunchtime on a Saturday - they may get more diners on weekdays, but most of their business while I was there was take out. There is a fair amount of parking in lot behind the restaurant, off of...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI can't believe what this pastrami just did to me. It destroyed the standard. I'm damaged goods now. Every pastrami I eat for the rest of my life will be a letdown. Guaranteed.
The brisket... oh man the brisket. It's good. Like, eyes roll to the back of your head, slow down and chew your food, feel bad for swallowing it, good. Thick sliced, right in front of you off the primal, which looked like a block of heaven. It has a deep, dark bark, just oozing with juices. You can tell it's home-made without skipping a step.
I often find pastrami dry and over salted. This was the opposite. I can't think of a single thing you could do to make this better. I would rather have this pastrami over lobster, or king crab. It's that good.
Even the condiments crushed it. Pickled onion, homemade mustard, thick dill pickles. Thick crusted rye bread. It was like eating a symphony.
It's the best thing I've eaten all year.
If you want to ruin pastrami for the rest of your life, get yourself a pastrami sandwich...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis place is weird. Locked doors ...a person walking by had to tell me there was another door to try. Many folk in College Hill have no idea they are even open. Glad they took cardboard bags off windows, that helps. Problem is they are out of most things if not most Id say all the time. Basics, like ribs and ribtips. If this is there business model then take it back or leave it at Walnut Hills location. This reminds me of going to a chicken restaurant and they are out of chicken, smh. If its really selling then maybe order more? Or close down. What a waste of time! Youll get there finally get in but out of stock of most items! I think I'll stick with Goodies up the street or Sweet Meats by Childrens Hospital. At least they are stocked and have good food. Ive heard the bbq here isn't really our kind of bbq anyway. I guess it's smoked. Good luck...
