The lady that I presume was the owner, comes across as the type of person to make assumptions based on how someone looks or is dressed. My 12-year-old daughter and I went in for breakfast for the first time based on their 4.5 star rating. Dressed in pajamas (it was a Saturday morning and early) we put our names on the list and sat in the corner waiting to be called. My daughter needed to use the restroom so I told her to go up and ask where it was. The lady who responded to her (the owner/boss) told my daughter the restroom was only for paying customers and then walked away from her without further inquiry. My daughter, being a child, did not realize her response should have been that we are in line to eat and I need to use the restroom. Instead, my daughter walked back to where we were sitting with a concerned look on her face because she needed to use the restroom.
Seeing this, I walked up and stated that we were there to eat and my daughter needed to use the restroom, please tell her where it is. It is unfortunate that in this day and age people still judge a book by the cover instead of asking questions to get to the truth. Once my daughter came back from the bathroom, we were seated and received our menus. I ordered coffee, orange juice, and water to drink, and my daughter ordered a hot cocoa and water. The water was tasty and clean, the coffee was well flavored and not burnt, and the orange juice was delicious and most likely fresh squeezed. That is where the good news stopped.
I ordered a kitchen omelette, which is a four egg omelet with a multitude of vegetables, extra crispy hash browns, and biscuits and gravy on the side. My daughter ordered the french toast with fruit. What I received was by far the blandest food I may have ever tasted at a restaurant. There was absolutely no flavor to the food. Putting salt on it finally gave it some sort of flavor, which was the flavor of salt alone. My daughter's food was covered in a strawberry jam instead of strawberries, it did have tasty banana slices, but there was enough whipped cream to choke a grown adult! There may have been more whipped cream than actual French toast. Her food was also essentially flavorless too.
The customer service while at the table was ok as they came back once to refill my coffee. Beyond that, this was not a good experience and even worse food. They did not even have what prices I paid on the bill. It was just a total. And our bill was almost $40 to boot! We will not be going back to Charlie's and I have no idea how this place has a 4.5...
Read moreI took my daughter here for breakfast just a few days ago. She had been sick for like 10 days with a cold and just getting a little better. I asked her if she wanted to go out to breakfast. She chose Charlie’s Café. We discussed all the way to the restaurant what she should eat because she’s had a cough. The first thing we ordered was hot water with lemon Then we ordered for her and I mentioned that my daughter has a cold. A special order scrambled eggs with no cheese, dry wheat toast/no dairy and a side of fresh fruit. The server brought toast covered in butter. I asked her if she could please get us dry wheat toast as we had requested. She said she would switch it out right away And as she was walking across the restaurant floor, she yelled all the way across the restaurant “next time get your order right”!! So I yelled back across the restaurant? I got The ordercorrect you wrote it down wrong. Then she never brought my daughter‘s toast back at all so I asked for the manager and the manager came over and immediately gave me an attitude as if we had made a mistake. I am a bartender and a server and have been for over 15 years and I’ve also owned two Italian restaurants I know exactly precisely how to make an order. In my opinion, the high cost of food now puts much pressure on mistake orders so the server was simply trying to shift the blame to me so she didn’t look stupid. I will never be going back because they started arguing with me in front of my daughter and threatened to call the police in front of my daughter over some butter toast. My daughter is special needs the fact that the old buzzard said said she was gonna call the police when they started the whole thing by yelling across the restaurant that I made a mistake in my order which was the most unprofessional thing I’ve ever seen in any restaurant I feel was way over the top andvery unprofessional. Pass that trying to get the police involved over butter toast shows that they have no idea whatsoever What the police deal with on a daily basis to try and involve the police over something so petty what a waste of resources no wonder our police are so strained. There are people out there so stupid as to call the police over such trivial Stuff. Anyway, I’m a marketer. It have been my whole life. I will tell everybody I know and I only live a couple blocks away. What they did to embarrass me in front of my daughter. I walked down the street today and told six of my neighbors what we did in front of my daughter. They said they will...
Read moreCharlie's cafe hits the stop on the hunger. Delicious all around breakfast items. And they even have homemade cinnamon buns that are huge and covered in awesomeness. But those are usually a weekend special. Call and ask about them.
We have tried a few omelets Joyce's mushroom and the shrimp and spinach with hollandaise sauce on it. Both so good, they make them like I would at home. Big and full of stuff the way they should be. Always get the home potatoes with them. So good straight up or with cheese sprinkled on top. The battlefield Benedicts were great too. Got my soft cooked egg that let out that nice yolk ooze. Loaded with bacon, tomato and spinach with avocado on top and hollandaise sauce. The kids like thier pancakes, they cut through nice with out that stubborn pull like some places have. So that makes it easy too.
Parking is plenty outside. And the waitresses are all so nice and helpful, we have had a few over the years but they...
