Had very high hopes, but was thoroughly disappointed! We were on our way to Rancho Viejo when we drove past Los Compadres; I checked it online and its 4.6-star rating lured us in. It was dinnertime but the place was empty (this was Valentine's Day, mind you--that should have been ample warning). You give your order to the cashier and then take a seat. The same cashier prepared and brought us our drinks. My boyfriend ordered a Corona but was served a Coronita--about 1/2 the size of a full bottle, but we were charged the full $4.50 price! The margaritas (2 for the price of 1) were tasty although they could have had a little more tequila. And the food? AWFUL! My Tacos al Pastor were mostly a few pieces of burned pork, mostly grizzle, sparsely assembled inside the tortillas; nothing else but a couple of tiny (1/4") minisquares of pineapple (you need to add the fixings yourself, from a toppings buffet). My fiancé's steak fajitas were a little better, but also greasy. Food is served on red plastic "baskets" with cheap plastic utensils. (Wish I had remembered to take pictures!) The bill was $56, without the tip--certainly, the food was not worth half that much! Two more couples came during the time we were there--but still no ambience. They finally played music (hardly loud enough to even tell if it was Mexican) during the last 5 minutes we were there. Good thing this wasn't...
Read moreI ordered the Fajita burrito with grilled chicken. It was very large, like 14" long, with tons of cheese sauce on it .. a big plus. Inside was rude, grilled veggies and the chicken (great only). Flavor was good, though I missed red sauce as found in the majority of Mexican restaurants I've been too. In fact, they didn't even know what I meant when I asked, "Do you have red sauce for the burrito?". They pondered, then said, "Do you mean hot sauce?". I found that funny. To note, you can get red salsa at their decent salsa bar, along with hot salsa, guacamole sauce, chips, pick, etc. The burrito was long, and filling, but I doubt there was a while chicken breast, or even half, in it. Still it was very tasteful & filling enough. I tried to make do with the cold red salsa 😁 The dish was $14.xx, which I think is a bit high. I'd value it at $9 to $12 max comparatively. Oh, the veggies inside also included peas ... which I thought was weird. I've never had peas AND corn in a burrito .. like ever! Sooo, I didn't prefer that. Still, I'd revisit. It is order at the counter & grab your own table deal, not traditional sit down service, just FYI. You can...
Read moreIt didn’t look like much from the outside but I was very impressed after walking in. The phrase, “Don’t judge a book by its cover.“ definitely implies here. This place is amazing. Their prices are pretty standard across the board. You make your order at the counter and seat your self, then they bring your food to you. They have a self-serve condiment bar where you get your own chips and has five different kinds of salsa. pico de gallo, onions and tomato. I love tacos de lengua and most of Mexican restaurants I go to only serve it on a Wednesday or a Sunday. It is served here every day. Now let’s get down to the nitty-gritty of why you’re here. Tenía dos tacos barbacoa y un taco de al pastor. I ordered two tacos Al Pastor and one taco Barbacoa. That was plenty. They came out with two corn tortillas each and way more meat than I expected. Definitely more meat than all the other Mexican restaurants I’ve been to. I was stuffed. Now quit reading this and let’s go get...
