My little boy and I shared a chicken finger basket meal and sat in the dining area, with my mom & other family members. I look forward to trying other things on the menu, cuz everybody was happy with their food & portions were large enough that we had leftovers to snack on later... We all liked the dining area a lot! And this is important:
I know some who don't care either way, unaffected when they go somewhere to eat and no matter which direction they turn their head, six TVs showing six different things are in their line of vision, but there's also loud music, or very busy walls, low lighting with bright bathrooms/ vice versa. Or that people coming in for their takeout orders walk past where they're sitting to eat, and opening / closing doors that let in blasts of temp shifts. But we loved that we could actually see and hear everyone we sat with at lil gingers!
It's a really big deal for us that there's this separate, clean, visually relaxing area with many tables, chairs and with portable air conditioning units. One of the children in our party has sensory processing disorder and can't dine in a lot of places without a pretty substantial risk of dealing with discomfort and stress. That's often a quiet struggle, even when it's really quite unpleasant he doesn't want to make a fuss, draw attention or ruin fun for others. Well- we all care about him & don't want to force him to be somewhere that literally hurts. So nobody wants to eat anymore, once we realize he's not doing great. The other children join him in miserable solidarity, cuz nobody wants to eat anything badly enough to make this child sit there and hold himself together so hard that he's exhausted and goes to sleep in the car after!
I really wanted to make sure this review went up -There are more kids with these problems than many ppl would imagine.
Some places are more obviously off limits, even on slow days- & we've had many times when things start fine, but we need to ask for doggie bags when it's ready. Him laying down in /under a booth, just trying to hang on 😓
If things stay the way they are in there, this is "his place"- and the only place where we adults don't have any doubts. It's is the only place where I've ever seen this child sit down and just dine, as fine as can be, comfortably, happily being able to participate just as much as everyone else, never had to lay his head down or anything!! I used to think I already saw him eat in restaurants comfortably, but it's never been like this. The children were SO HAPPY! The biggest yes from everybody!
So, to other families with neurodivergent members of all ages who have similar struggles because sensory sensitivities that go at odds with a lot of stuff, or ppl who struggle with attention & wanna meet in a public space that isn't going to be distracting: this is your place! The menu has a wide variety and includes "the staples" for people who always already know what they want 🙂 The background sound is kinda like white noise, too. The way this space is set up somehow uses everything running in the main room, and in the dining area it's functioning as some muffling agent lol. Several groups talking at a normal conversational volume shouldn't be intrusive or distracting to others!
We all really appreciated lil gingers safe, clean, naturally sunlit, separate dining room! If you want to go somewhere to eat good food and spend time with people you like to be around, that's what you'll be able to have here. This is a space that invites conversations among your group. So many families don't have the chance to sit down at a table & have screen free dinnertime together. This is a great place for a parent to take their kids out for dinner so everyone can talk about how their week has been. And on the same note, it would be a good choice of restaurants when it comes to lunch or dinner plans with a friend with whom you have tons of...
Read moreHave ordered chicken finger subs multiple times and the crisp on the chicken is just perfect. Great subs so far, a little hit and miss with fries but mostly tasty. The chicken wings have been great. The only thing I'd say is that the bread should be toasted a bit more especially with hot subs but otherwise what a...
