I got a hot buttered lobster roll ($30) and fried clams. The clams were mostly breading. One of them had sand. The lobster roll was weird. Rather than chunks of soft white and red meat and visible claw meat, it was cut up big squarish chunks of white, brown, and rubbery meat. I'm sure at least some of it was lobster, but the preparation/composition was very different from other places. I would not be surprised if white fish was mixed in. The lobster was overcooked and rubbery. There was not enough butter. It was in a plain hotdog bun rather than a toasted brioche bun. I had to add more butter. I think you should try a warm buttered lobster roll from Nolan's on Canandaigua ($25), the restaurant or the snack shack, to know what it should look and taste like. For this price the quality has to improve... I won't be back unless I see pictures that it's better. I was really really really looking forward to having a go-to lobster roll spot.

I had an amazing first-time visit to this store. The experience was absolutely perfect. I can confidently say that the fish and chips served here are the best I've ever had. The taste is incredibly authentic and the flavors are absolutely delicious. The owner of the store is extremely enthusiastic, which adds to the overall charm of the place. I strongly believe that this shop deserves a recommendation from me to everyone I know!

I'm a first time customer and and I got two wild caught salmon fillets to try. Absolutely phenomenal piece of fish. Deep color and excellent flavor. The staff are super knowledgeable and offered valuable advice on preparation. I will be a long time repeat customer with this type of experience.

Today was the 3rd attempt to get food from here. The first time the man behind the counter told me that he was too busy to take my order as he just got a large order on the phone. Ok I thought wow that's interesting but I didnt stress over it I politely walked out thinking ok he just must be short staffed. The 2nd attempt I walked in (same guy) and asked a question to understand what was included in a combo and was told I should have reviewed the menu before I got there! I was literally insulted and walked out now I knew better but I wanted to give a 3rd try maybe I'd was a off day the last time but nope I was 2nd in line not a soul in site, an elderly man asked a few questions placed his order and wouldn't you know it, I asked what was included with the seafood bake and how long it would take? I was extra nice to the lady because she seemed to be annoyed I assume by something else but wouldn't you know it she asked me to move aside to take of the lady that JUST walked in behind me right as I said out of my mouth i will take the fish fry. I just turned away and walked out I can't make this up!I called her to tell her how disappointed I was int he service hshe hung up on me lol I'm not delusional these people pick and choose who they serve. I'm going to prove it by walking in and recording...

Hi to Jim's staff and prospective customers Please take my review from 3 years ago with "a grain of salt" as the expression goes. That review was in the middle of the pandemic and staff shortages.

I haven't been there in years since we've relocated to Virginia but I still rate Jim's as the best fish fry in Rochester by far, and it appears other reviewers since my old entry still do too.

From 2020: A direct suggestion to the owner: Hi this seems like the best way to give you feedback since it looks like you read the reviews. Yesterday, 8/28, I had my first bad experience. While you were short staffed, for which I forgive you, your phone seemed like it eas off the hook for about an hour at 5-6 pm. I never got to order, visited to try to order in person and walked away. Why not add on-line ordering? It would free up one of your people to fill orders. We,ve been customers for years, love your food and people. Just trying to hell. I,ll be back again tonight to try...
