Learn moreTo be honest, if I knew this was NOT a full service restaurant for the amount that I spent on me and my family yesterday, I would not have patronized this establishment. I am a woman of color and I believe in supporting businesses of people of color first before going to franchised restaurants that are commonly frequented by everyone. There is no strategy in their restaurant operation system. You have to pay for your food, wait for your ticket number to receive your meal as if you're at a lunch counter or a food truck. Not to mention, then you as a guest are responsible for gathering your own silverware and get your own condiments. I assumed that the silverware was sitting up there waiting to get washed or sanitized because they were just merely sitting there, instead of somebody in the restaurant taking time out to wrap the silverware in napkins and seat them on the table like you would normally see in a restaurant establishment? They sure fooled me. I honestly they should just have packets of plastic silverware to hand out to people for the level of service that was not rendered. The only people in there being served are the ones who have ordered alcoholic beverages. The food was absolutely delicious, don't get me wrong, as I enjoyed every bite of it. However, in hindsight, this business is better off being a full service catering company for events or getting a food truck or more importantly, expanding their establishment to a bigger size where they can offer several seating options that do not violate the fire code where there is no room to move around. Contact the city or somebody to get a grant to hire young people in there or get REOC or BOCES students or some other young people interested in food service to serve at your establishment to earn hours towards their certification or something. But the fact that there is NO one serving in that restaurant unless you order alcohol is ridiculous. Patrons literally have to excuse themselves between guests just to get up and get the food and items needed to consume your meal. Makes me wonder if they're even honoring whatever the fire code is because it would be mayhem at that restaurant if was full to capacity and a fire occured and people were trying to safely exit. Honestly, how would even somebody with a wheelchair be comfortable sitting in there because there's so much seating and nowhere to move around. For the lack of service not received considering the amount of the bill really made me think I should have just paid A bill or went shopping, so it's one and done for me. Just to add the stares and glares of their older staff members who were not a part of the kitchen staff or responsible for preparing the meals that were being served that appeared to have been there for support towards their family, was just extremely, absolutely uncomfortable. They should have been commissioned or responsible for greeting people coming in the door and letting them know they can sit anywhere. As this was our first time there, we stood at the door for a minute or so, clearly looking like deers in headlights because there was no sign that indicated please seat yourself. As one of my guests that attended the restaurant with me duly noted, this restaurant concept, much like many others, is a food fad in Rochester. Not well or strategically planned and just implemented to get paid. These are all my observations. Good luck with your...

August 6, 2023 12:00 noon Star rating has decreased from 2stars to one because the exact same thing happened again. I secured a seat while waiting for a friend. Once the friend arrived I went to the register no one was there for 2 minutes. When she returned she said we are not taking anymore orders we're backed up , unless you want to wait two hours. SMH. I was embarrassed for the friend I had invited. We left to go down the road to a more established restaurant The Golden Fox- where the service and food is always good. Perhaps the third time shall be the charm. Why keep trying? I live in the The Toast Factory has moved into for neighborhood 30 years. I patronize my community's businesses.
July 31, 2023 it's only the second day since The Toast Factory's grand open, so I sincerely expect this rating to go higher if I can taste the food. It was packed, loud, complete chaos. There's a lot of excitement about the opening. Here's the problem. Orders are only taken at the cash register in the front- no one was at the register. When I sat at the counter the owner was focused on making the "toast." We spoke briefly, focused, well mannered, and kind, I think is an accurate character description . The owner directed someone to get coffee while I wait. I got up after discovering only sugar is available for coffee, no Splenda or sweet and Low. I went to the register to place an order. About 4 people where reviewing the menu on the board but no one was at register to take orders. Then, I saw a vacant table. I sat down. I forgot to bring my coffee from the counter, but hoped once a waitress came over, thr waitress would retrieve it. Finally, when I got the attention of a staff member they said, " no one is at the register, we're not taking orders people have been waiting an hour." Finally, I asked is there waitress service here? Staff member said no you have to place your order at the register." I have a good feeling about the Toast Factory because the interior designer did their thing, the environment is contemporary and inviting. The owner is focused, genuine well mannered and I have a feeling -- will do extremely well in this location. The food delivery system, however needs a great deal of work. Take people from behind the counters and let them wait the interior and exterior tables. I think a little conversation from waiting staff will give the owner time to prep the plates. Looking forward to returning, perhaps when thing settle down to actually taste the...
Read moreI would like to preface this by saying that we did come on a weekend so it was likely the busiest time. I just didn't really like how there wasn't much explanation on how the process worked. I would like to give my thanks to one woman who was working on the floor, she was amazing. She saw me waiting for my friend and recommended that I grab a table to wait since tables filled up quickly. She gave me some menus and told me that we could go up to order once my friend came in. So it seemed to be like a Chipotle or Moe's where you just order at the prep area and then go and cash out and get your food. However when we went to go order at the prep area, a prep person seemed to reluctantly take my friend's order and then no one came back to take my order. So there were several minutes of awkwardly just standing where I was trying to figure out if it was just busy or if we were not ordering correctly. Then finally a woman at the cash register at the end called down and said that she could take my order. They didn't give us any more instructions and we saw a bunch of people waiting at the register so we assumed that we just wait at the register for our food. But after several minutes, the same kind woman working the floor came over and asked our names and she went over to the prep area and let us know that there were several orders ahead of ours and that we should just go sit down and they would call out our names. When we got our order, there was no silverware with it so my friend said she thought she saw a station with it so she went to go grab some for us and she said that a lot of the silverware there was kinda sticky. The French toast was good but for a place that is mostly just French toast, I would have expected it to be something a bit more in quality than just standard French toast I can get at most breakfast places (granted we did both get just the plain French toast). So I would just like it if there was some more signage throughout the restaurant to help new people who don't know the protocol to direct them where to order and how the process works. Perhaps on a quieter day, staff do explain this and I am very thankful to that one fantastic woman who...
