Wendy and I enjoyed lunch at Utica’s Milano Restaurant. It occupies the old Chesterfield’s at 1711 Bleecker St.
First impression: CLEAN & tidy. Samir, the new owner, has obviously invested a lot of money, talent, and work into making this restaurant a place of which to be very proud. From the floors to the masonry to the decor, to the cosmopolitan vibe, everything feels classy.
Then … the warmth and hospitality. Everyone we met was so kind and inviting. We immediately felt like we were visiting old friends. I don’t think Bosnians can help but be so friendly and welcoming.
The facility: Samir shared that he had expanded the restaurant and renovated everything. We sat outdoors but we toured the many indoor options. The bar is spacious and fun, the various seating rooms are all well-appointed and spacious (there’s that word again), and the big room is SO spacious that it seats 100. You’ve got to drop in and see how nice it all feels.
The meals: while light on the vegetarian options, Wen enjoyed a fresh salad. Samir shared that he plans to add more vegetarian options as the business grows. My meatball sandwich was very tasty and fresh. I commented to Wendy that the meatballs, “taste like Utica.” I noted several entrees that I plan to return for. The portions are more than adequate.
Dessert: Wendy never eats dessert, so I was forced to order TWO! The apple pie was mild and smooth. The flavor was slightly reduced by being served chilled. The chocolate cake (with chocolate mousse interior and strawberry frosting outside) was perfectly flavorful; nothing was overplayed.
Would I recommend it to a friend? Yes! Would I return? We plan to.
Bottom line: Milano has all the good things found in the Utica area’s best restaurants - all at the same time. Samir has done an excellent job and I thank him for the business risks he is taking, the work he is doing, and the greatness he delivers. We’re blessed to have this visionary entrepreneur in town; he deserves our respect and has earned my business.
Bonus: Tyler is an excellent waiter and treated us...
Read moreThe best Filet Mignon and Ribeye Steaks (both cooked to rare but crusty perfection, and a tasty Gorgonzola) we have ever had in our life!!! Extremely delicious and great price (I think it was $42 for an 8 ounce Filet, and $43 for a 12 ounce Ribeye). Their scallop special over risotto was tasty too! Bread was yummy- Crusty, warm, and the drizzled garlic parsley butter was a nice touch. This place is a gem. It honestly lacked for nothing… Style, elegance, immaculately clean, and superb food make this place my new favorite. I live in Rochester, which means two hours to drive but worth it. Definitely in my top 5 restaurants. Owner was a gracious host, and his team outstanding with impeccable customer service start to finish. Will...
Read moreWalking in the restaurant it was very clean. We were met by the waitress who gave us the choice of where we would like to sit. Then we were given water and asked about drinks gave us the specials. We ordered a cup of French onion soup and shrimp bisque. The sizes were like bowls. Then we ordered the haddock oreganata and the haddock and shrimp francaise.
The oreganata was really well cooked with parm rossotto and spinach. Same with the franchise. The wine sauce was not over powering. For the prices the food is worth it. I don't normally give 5 stars but this restaurant definitely deserves it.
Also the food did not need...
