Corky's Kitchen and Bakery - Claremont — Restaurant in Claremont

Usually, Just great comfort food. This place "almost" never disappoints, until tonight ... it makes me sad to write this post but, I have to do it because Corky's can't get away with taking food to the table like we got tonight .. we went in for dinner, my wife and I and I ordered the Smash Burger and she got the famous fried chicken dinner .... We both got salads to start our meals. The lettuce was old and had been back there sitting in water for at least a day or 2. Some pieces were so wilted it was inedible and were set aside. Sad start none-the-less.. strike 1 ... I haven't gotten their burger for a long time and it was on their special menu so I thought i'd try it out ... well, it wasn't a "smash burger" .. not at all .. the bun was soggy and greasy, and the meat tasted rank. It was cooked dark brown, over seasoned to hide the taste, and was not "smashed" ... not at all. The bacon was well cooked, but that was it .. I got the onion straws , they are always good. .. Burger was a complete failure. Strike 2 . My wife ordered the Fried Chicken, I think they are known for having great Fried Chicken .. it came with mashed potatoes and gravy, potatoes were lumpy and not very fresh or appetizing at all . The chicken was 1 wing ... and a very small thigh that must have been sitting somewhere for at least 20 hours. The meat on that thigh was so dried out it almost disappeared.. the wing ? Hardly a bite of chicken there, the thigh ? Hardly 2 bites after picking it apart ... un believable .. I cut my burger in half and gave it to her to eat and the bun just fell off .. gave her my onion straws and those were edible.. she got a blueberry muffin, but the muffin was doughy and hard to chew, like glue (over mixed) not fresh or fluffy ... sad. Since we were both still hungry we ordered some cheesecake, but not even the fairly good dessert could save this very disapointing meal. The salad sucked ... old & soggy The burger was sad .. gross The chicken was a waste of money.. couldnt find any meat to eat on it .. dried out failure We would have asked for our money back but we like the waitress, so we didn't want to screw up her night. We've been regulars here since they opened this location ... this meal was the worst meal we've ever had at this Corky's. Not sure we'll ever go back there for dinner again. Our waitress was great as usual. But the food tonight was a complete waste of time and money ... we considered it a donation, and...

We Corky's went to try another Corky today for a late lunch/dinner.

The place is in a new shopping center with quite a few stores like CVS and Whole Foods. The rest are eateries or other businesses

We went in and the server, cashier and hostess was super nice. She sat us down quickly. She took our drinks order. She came back and we placed our orders. It was too early for their dinners.

I ordered their meat loaf w/mash potatoes and gravy. You have a choice of soup or salad. Today was split pea. The split pea soup was very yummy. It had carrots and small pieces of ham. It was very flavorful. The meat loaf was great.

My honey had the Chicken fried steak. The first chicken fried steak was burned. Told waitress and she placed another one. The second one wasn't burned but you can taste the oil it was cooked in. I wouldn't recommend this item.

We were happy with the courteous, friendly server we had today. I didn't get her name only. She was the only waitress for awhile before the next shift person came in.

I would recommend this place. It is very close to the 210 on and off ramp on Base Line. When we come back, we will try something else.

P.S.: we prefer this Corky than the one...

I’ve been going to Corkys on baseline for about 4 years. I always order the same meal open face turkey with stuffing mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce. I always ask the waitress for extra cranberry sauce. The meal comes with two pieces of cranberry sauce and the waitress always brings me an extra two pieces. Last night we went to Corkys ordered asked for extra cranberry and the waitress said they charge extra WTF I politely said ok no problem. My food came with the normal two pieces of cranberry so i reminded the waitress to bring the extra cranberry. She said that the second piece was the extra cranberry. I asked her to please bring me two more slices of cranberry and she went back to the kitchen and I could hear the cook and her having a loud discussion about extra cranberries. She did bring me 2 pieces of cranberries. When I got the check they had charged me $1.99 twice for extra cranberry. If I ever go back to Corkys it will be the one on Mountain in Montclair I’ve always enjoyed the good service and of course the extra two pieces...
