Could & Should be Better
We went for breakfast on a Sunday morning. It wasn’t very busy. The café is clean and nicely decorated. The staff were nice and attentive. Prices were fair.
I had the corned beef omelet which was on special. It was very tasty and quite large. I could have done without the slice of “plastic” American cheese melted on top. It adds practically no flavor and isn’t worth the calories. The accompanying grits were better than average but still needed butter, salt and pepper to give them some flavor. It also came with a nice, warm biscuit. Unfortunately, when it sits on a plate for any amount of time, the bottom gets steamed and goes soggy. We also had the Angie breakfast sandwich. It was quite nice except the bread was a little burnt. We shared a half order of French toast. It was thick, so the interior was soggy. The coffee was nice.
When paying the bill at the cash register, I saw a small notice about a 4% surcharge for credit cards. I didn’t have enough cash, so I paid the surcharge. I do wish that surcharges like this were put on their website and door and menu, so you know up front.
If they could clean up some of the details in the kitchen, this would be a good, regular breakfast stop. But with so much competition in the field, I can’t see going back to check if they’ve...
Read moreI have been ordering the Turkey Club at Angie's since 1996. This last Sat I ordered it for the first time at their location on Drew St. Not only was it flavorless, the meat was off -- it smelled bad. I brought this to the waitress's attention and she, without responding to me, turned to the other waitress there and told her to "handle this" as she didn't have time (or some such). The other lady barely speaks English and I don't think she understood or pretended not to understand (?). Anyway, I paid for the food, left no tip and left with my uneaten meal on the table.
The usual waitress, Shirley, was not there and I'm sure she would not have let this happen. Rotten smelling meat cannot be served in a restaurant or anywhere else for that matter.
To be fair to Angie's, I have had plenty of excellent tasting food there in the last several months. I usually order the eggs benedict because it is absolutely delicious. Shirley has always been a top-notch waitress. I hope she still...
Read moreHaving had a really bad experience at another restaurant (cold food and bad service); I have been looking for a new place for breakfast. While the food was tasty, average priced, it was hot. (I appreciate that) The atmosphere was pretty welcoming; however I was a little taken back by my waitress decision to assume her own tip. I bought a $10 breakfast sandwich and had a drip coffee, which amazingly is high priced at $4. (I drink coffee a lot, wasn't worth $4 at all) had I known the price of the coffee, I would of had just water instead. Anyway I gave her a $20 bill with my ticket and she kept the change without blinking an eye. I'm a good tipper, never tipping less than 20%, but I expect the opportunity to give it to you. I find it highly presumptuous for you to just assume that the change belongs to you. I'm not into those who feel they are entitled to whatever they want when they want it. Tipping is a choice not a requirement. I'm going to keep looking for a better...
