Some of the best places to eat homemade Mexican food are in little buildings with Univision blaring on the TV. Cash only. My barber told me about La Cabana Del Tio in Clearwater which sells some of the biggest and most tasty empanadas he's ever eaten. He said they are made from scratch using corn masa like his mom makes. This place is tiny and the parking lot is not made for trucks but I managed. I didn't know it was cash only so off I went to the bank to take out some cash. I was determined to try this place today. They have a line of proteins to choose from for the filling. I asked for chorizo and cheese. It took a good 10-15 min to get my food. Let me tell you, they smelled great on my way home. I wanted to pull over and eat them. When I opened up the tray they had placed a huge helping of sour cream, guacamole, and lettuce on the size. The three empanadas were thick and filled with meaty Mexican-style chorizo (ground up) which is what I wanted. They put a strip of fresh queso on the bottom of the fold. They were not greasy or messy, they were easy to cut in half and devour. I found a new place for some good MEX eats! Definitely a hole-in-the-wall restaurant simple restaurant. Those empanadas set the bar pretty high for me so I hope the rest of the menu keeps me coming back. I plan on trying the...

I've Been coming here for years, this is my last time.

Every single time I come here to order food there's 3 to 5 people at the counter at any given time, you never get acknowleged, no "hello" no "I'll be right with you", nothing they don't even look at you untill they are ready.

Spent 10 mins at the counter one of the ladies sees me waiting, says nothing then she goes about her business, no personality, no greeting, nothing. There is usually a lady at the front with a horrible attitude, she wasn't there today.

I ordered three tacos, I'm not lying when I say this I waited 45 minutes before I decided to just walk out. Mind you is 3pm on a Saturday, wasn't busy. The wait times here are absolutely uncesessary. Expect 30 mins plus for a few tacos is been my experience.

Found another place down the street "Don Huicho Mexican Restaurant" much cleaner & nicer place, staff is friendly got attended as soon as I walked in and only took 10mins to get my order.

Your food is good, but your customer service and wait time is...

Wow. Fantastic.

So the place is small, consisting of 3 tables and a bar to sit at. Order at the counter after looking over their menu hanging above your head. Make sure to look at the specials.

I had the chilaquiles (no eggs on this one for some reason...) and he had the special of three flat bread gordita style breads filled with barbacoa. He loves them. SO good. Mine was wonderful. I added chorizo instead of chicken or steak and it was perfect.

We ordered a bottled water as well. It was probably around $20 and the 2 of our meals fed us 2 times so very much worth the money.

Staff did not speak a lick of English from what they let on (we are good with that) and the place had one other table of people while we were there. As we were leaving, maybe 3 pm, the place filled up with maybe 15 people, all Latino, which as I said to my dining partner was a sign of great food and wonderful service and friendly staff.

We would return in a minute. There is no reason to keep searching for great local food. It...

I have been coming here for years and the food is so great that I keep emergency taco money on hand for cravings (no cards accepted!). The fresh handmade tortillas, flavorful meats (especially the bistek con nopales) and the worlds best damn red sauce make their tacos my favorite in all of the Tampa Bay area. I usually recommend people get 3-4, up to 6 if you're really hungry. They recently updated their menu, the new one is more readable and organized. The prices rose just slightly (and reasonably imho) but the food is still worth every penny and more. Do note the restaurant is small, just a few barstools and booths that can fit at most 4 people. The staff is kind but straightforward, no perky chatty service here. During busy hours they have a bilingual cashier but early mornings or late nights you might have to get by with a bit of Spanglish or google translate if you don't speak Español.

Authentic Mexican restaurant that serves ground beef for the tacos de bistec (steak tacos)? My husband couldn't even eat them because the meat was just ugh. And the tacos de pollo (chicken)? The chicken is bland. Not even seasoned. And if you have problems with heartburn? Run the other away, because the tacos al pastor and tacos de chorizo will have you regretting your decision. Even if you don't get heartburn? You'll start feeling like you do.
