It doesn’t make me feel good to post a negative review.
My family and I have been to Maggie Mae’s several times in the past. It was our go to breakfast place, while staying at the Marriott next door. It’s a typical no frills breakfast/luncheonette joint, located in a strip mall, with a great view of the water along with pesky seagulls and where the wait staff pride themselves on snarky attitudes. For what it’s worth, I worked my way through high school and college in a place like this (minus the view), so I have more patience than most diners and I’m not demanding or high maintenance. In fact my family and I are always pleasant and try to make ordering as painless and efficient as possible. The point being that I know what it’s like to hustle to get food and coffee out to to people, who are often impatient and unappreciative.
To stay on point, this was our go to place for decent food, a nice view, and where we could support a local small business. After yesterday, we won’t be back.
We waited an hour for a table only to find that most tables were empty. We were patient and understanding about that, because it was the weekend and a peak time for breakfast.
The food yesterday was disgusting and inedible. No one finished their food. My dad (who never complains) ordered Eggs Benedict. The muffin was burnt to a black-charred crisp and he said the hollandaise sauce tasted like it was a week old. My wife ordered pancakes, which were raw in the middle. I ordered an egg scrambler, which was barely cooked and looked repulsive. The condiments, which are left on the table, include butter that was completely melted and looked rancid.
We paid the bill (including a generous tip - because I’ll always remember my many years working for tips) and collectively agreed to write Maggie Mae’ off of our list of...
Read more4/26/22 1pm...Wow...I don't even know where to begin...Waitress looked & sounded miserable! No smile, no energy...seemed like she did not want to be there! My friend & I both ordered water for drinks. I had just finished my hot tea before arriving & was fluid out. My friend ordered fish & chips. He said it was delicious & that's why for the 2 stars. He finished his water & Waitress never refilled. Fine. Moving on....This is where the cook is part of the blame...but the waitress should be AWARE of what she is taking out of the kitchen. I ordered Banana Foster French toast & potatoes with onions & peppers. I wanted syrup/Banana & whipped cream on the side. (Seen a Google pic that way & thought that was a good idea so I can control the amount I want on my food & not make it a soggy mess). Well, French toast came out hot. The syrup with Banana, cold. Potatoes ice cold, onions & peppers ice cold. So that made the whole potato dish ice cold. She came over to the table with her miserable self & I told her how everything is cold. She did ask to warm it up but I told her no because my friend was half way done his food. So I told her I will take it home & warm it up. So, yes...I ate nothing! She seems to scurry off quickly...so she wasn't available at all even after our food was served.. Couldn't find her when needed & that's why my friend was half way done his food before I had the chance to see her to let her know. I then get the bill. You would think that she would have taken it off or even offer a discount...but No. Then to top it off....she gave me a pen that didn't wright...Stick to the one located on...
Read moreMaggie Mae’s came as a down south southern comfort family oriented recommendation that we were glad to follow through on.
We were delighted upon pulling up to have been to the waterfront location before at Backwaters for dinner.
Please check the hours of operation as the day we went, they closed at 2pm.
Parking - Since restaurants at both ends of the strip offer valet, it was somewhat time consuming trying to circle the lot for a spot (police had someone pulled over in the lot). Please watch as some spots are for only 30 and 60 minute parking.
From the outside, you’d think it was a small store, however, I judged and was surprised as the restaurant was deep and had indoor and outdoor dining. We opted for outdoor dining.
We ordered breakfast, which to our delight was still being served at the time we arrived. Menu attached. We ordered an assortment of pancakes, eggs, home fries, bacon (no turkey bacon, but turkey sausages), chicken fingers/fries, hamburger/fries.
The outdoor atmosphere was tranquil overlooking the water. Since we arrived early afternoon, there were only 2 other tables seated, and they left son after, leaving us with the entire back deck to ourselves.
Service was phenomenal. Our waiter serviced our needs beyond our expectations.
**The only recommendation I would ask is if there is a way to screen in the back deck, that may prevent the raven and crows from accessing tables contents and condiments. Birds were flying off with creamer cups, jelly packs, and even sipping...
