After a stay in Clearwater, we were tired of hotel breakfast. The hubs said, "I found this little place with amazing reviews." I was too tired to argue, so I said, "Let's go." We walked in and lucky enough to find an open table. Within a minute we were greeted by a very polite young man, who got our drinks forthwith.
Taking all there is here, you will quickly see the magic that is Tory's Cafe. Quickly enveloped by the warm and fuzzy feelings that rapidly manifest deep inside. So this is a small Mom & Pop cafe that will take you back to fond memories of eating at grandma's house at the holidays with ALL of your extended family. An eclectic mix of folks, all in various stages of just rolled out of bed, to got errands to run.
From the well organized chaos of a busy, well run kitchen to the playful banter of Jeff the chef. If you listen close, he can be caught singing many of the wide range of feel-good tunes from yesteryear. I even caught myself singing along several times.
A beautiful soul was floating around, delivering food and taking orders. Even making a point to show us various plates of food, with the Price as Right model flair. The energy is infectious. That's it, I was excited to be here! As tired as I was from days of being a tourist, I was awake.
Soon, Bridget called out and pointed at us, 'Your next, coming to you' and something about being ready. The menu is pretty straightforward, something for everyone, even the pickiest of kids/adults. A Mouthwatering pancake that would feed 3 hungry teenagers for my son, served with warm syrup, such a thoughtful touch. A fluffy, fresh omelet for me. A delicious Eggs Benedict with a perfectly poached egg and a biscuit with sausage gravy for the mister. Each comes with sides and bread. Be ready for all the choices, folks!! The biscuits are hands down the best I have ever eaten. I should have gotten some for the flight. Pancakes 10/10. Omelet 9.5/10, the potatoes 11/10, just do it. You won't regret it. My very picky teen ate half of mine, and we still had some left. Had we not been going to the airport, leftovers would have been lunch. Even with as busy as Bridget was she found time to talk and make us feel like part of the family.
I am sad we didn't find this earlier during our trip. We certianly would have eaten here every day!
This is a place that will be our first stop our next time in Clearwater. What a gem! A true, authentic diner that you just can't find anymore. Run by people who love what they do and the people they serve. Straightforward home cooking and...
Read moreWe travel to Clearwater Florida every year for our family vacation and about 4 years ago we discovered Tory's. By far the best breakfast diner around! Although small, with 8 booths and a breakfast bar, it is by far the friendliest diner. One of those places where everyone knows your name! The owners, Bridget and Jeff are two of the kindest humans! Jeff, is the chef and cooks the very yummy food. Bridget, works incredibly hard and is such an amazing waitress, running from table to table to gather orders and serve each person....oh and with a smile on her face 😀 Our 8 year old grandson was drawing while at the table waiting, Bridget leaned over and told him "how wonderful the gift of drawing is. Don't ever stop drawing, your gift is a part of who you are! " A few minutes later he was drawing a sign for Tory's ( an alligator and the words Clearwater Florida, Tory's Restaurant ). He gave the drawing to Bridget and she and Jeff announced to everyone that " we have an amazing young man who just drew this sign for us! Isn't he Fantastic!" They taped his drawing to their refrigerator behind the breakfast bar and posed for a photo with Teddy. The smile on his face was priceless! Oh, did I mention that the food is cooked...
Read moreUpon entering this small cafe, I immediately knew it would be a good choice: the staff knew most everyone by their first names, which means locals frequent the establishment, and the lead cook was singing joyfully while he worked. I ordered the quiche of the day and a side of fresh fruit, both of which were absolutely phenomenal; it was probably the most perfectly fresh fruit I have ever gotten from any cafe ever, usually it's all watered down and pre-frozen or something, but my waitress (whose name escapes me) said she puts a lot of pride into making them every morning. They also carry Cholula and several other varieties of hot sauce, which I loved. Then I ordered a blueberry pancake, and it was humongous and fluffy and fabulous; I couldn't even finish the one, but took it to go for later. The staff were cheerful and personable, the place was clean, and they followed social distancing guidelines well. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a solid, well-priced breakfast/lunch venue with varied, classic...
