I am a repeat customer who went there for lunch today. The food is fantastic. So is the service.

But don’t even think about walking your dog or yourself on the garbage strewn vacant lot with gaping holes in the fence next to the diner. The owner must have radar or something because he came out of the diner as we were coming back to the car and scolded me for walking my dog on his garbage strewn vacant lot because there was a keep out sign outside closer to the end of the lot near the other parking lot. Maybe you should pay more attention to your customers and the management of your restaurant then surveying a vacant lot.

Note to the owner: Move the keep outside to the part of the vacant lot that is adjacent to your parking lot or get another keep outside and place it there. I didn’t even see it till we were already 2/3 of the way into the lot and it looked like it was keep out of the property on the other side of the vacant lot Fix the fence and clean up the garbage in the lot? Remove the dead bodies, buried treasure or whatever else is so precious in that lot that it could be harmed by somebody walking their dog.

I don’t know why you had to be such a jerk about it. There were much more civil and polite ways to inform somebody that a lot is your property and please stay off of it. I’m not a freaking child.

Too bad because the restaurant is excellent. I’m a senior citizen and don’t need to be talked down to like a child by some uptight...

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I’ve eaten here twice and I’m already emotionally attached.

First time in, I got the corned beef hash—and let me tell you, I ascended. It was crispy, savory, and so good I almost proposed to the plate. The second time? I didn’t even care what I ordered—I just knew it’d be made with love and probably a sprinkle of magic. Spoiler alert: it was.

But listen—the food is only half the story. The real MVPs? The staff. These folks don’t just serve food, they serve vibes. They’re warm, attentive, and somehow manage to make you feel like a regular by your second visit. I half expected them to hand me a "Welcome Home" banner with my check.

Atmosphere: cozy and inviting. Food: flavor-packed soul food greatness. Staff: 10/10, would trust them to babysit my plants and pick my wedding playlist.

If you're anywhere near Cleveland and not eating at Dinner on 55th... what are you even...

This has been a staple in Cleveland for a long time so I've been going there for years. The service is great. The food is great. The atmosphere is relaxing - and great. The prices are affordable, and the food NEVER disappoints. The owner is a pleasant guy that always greets you with a smile. He will make your day regardless of what kind of mood you're in. And the servers are fun and nice to be around. They're professional, efficient, outgoing, and pay special attention to you, even if it's really busy in the restaurant. The menu is simple small, but hey it's a diner! (A great dinner by the way) So what would you expect? If you've never been here you have to try it. It's conveniently located on the corner of E. 55th Street and St. Clair, and about a mile off the freeway and the lake front. If it's crowded, don't worry you won't have to wait long. This is a place you have...

I’m a sucker for old school diners and that is exactly what you’re going to get with the Diner on 55th. If you’re looking for a fancy dinner that’s all prim and proper, this isn’t going to fit that. But if you’re looking for somewhere to get a filling, tasty meal for a good price and friendly service, you’re in the right spot! I love going here for breakfast and I always want to try everything on the menu so I tend to go for the Belly Buster Breakfast. I love the atmosphere as it looks like a giant AirStream trailer, but it’s very roomy and comfortable inside. It’s one of my favorite diners in Cleveland!

Other restaurants: pay attention. This is how you serve a big salad: in a bowl that is sufficiently big enough to toss the ingredients without making a mess. The place is bright and clean. The staff are friendly and helpful. This place feels like home as evidenced by all the locals here. The cobb salad was delicious with lots of fresh ingredients (I skipped the blue cheese and the dressing). The sausage gravy on the biscuits biscuits was peppery but not overwhelming, while the biscuits were somehow both dense and fluffy which I enjoyed.

Despite being minutes away from downtown, this place really has the perfect small town diner vibes! I ordered the New Englander Breakfast and the French Toast. The corned beef hash was hot and delicious, the eggs were perfectly cooked, and bacon that came with the French Toast was just the right texture. The French Toast was soft and flavorful, and the white bread that came with my meal with buttered and a delicious complement to the rest of the breakfast. I would definitely recommend coming here for a breakfast with family or friends!
