Harbor House Restaurant — Restaurant in Clinton Township

I ate here this past weekend. The food was just decent. However, my biggest gripe with this restaurant is the 'all you can eat' moniker. The way their 'all you can eat' system works is: Waitress takes your order of food. When you finish your plate, waitress comes back to take your next order. When you finish that plate, then waitress comes back to take another order, and another, and so on. The only problem is, you have to wait 15 - 20 minutes between each plate. Which means you are left sitting at the table just waiting… a lot. It's almost as if they go slow on purpose in order to limit the amount of food you consume.

The other problem is that I came in with a party of 10 people. So if you can imagine, our poor waitress had to take 10 orders on 5 separate occasions. When that same waitress has two other tables (with about 10 people each), this means she has to take 30 orders at a time, 4 - 5 times. This is extremely confusing not just for the customer, but also for the waitress because we must have received 4 – 5 wrong orders. This is not the waitress’ fault (she was very gracious and was trying her best), it is just a bad business model. I understand the need to save on food waste, but this comes at the expense of the customer’s dining experience. Overall, our party of 10 were at the restaurant for a total of 3 hours, when it really should have only taken about an hour and a half, or less. The entire experience was a very slow, and disorganized mess.

If the owners were smart, they would just turn the place into a buffet, or figure out a more efficient (and effective way) to take orders. (Perhaps have order slips at the table that the customer fills out themselves). There would be a lot less customers waiting for their food. Customers would eat quicker and be in and out of the restaurant at a quicker rate; which in turn would allow more business to flow through the door.

I wanted to like this place, but overall, I just can't recommend it. Our waitress was great (for the mess that she was dealt); I can't say the same for our hostess (who gave my party the most unfriendly, nasty stare upon us entering the restaurant). Well I do not know where to start but today Feb 18 2024 I decided to go to harbor House on groesbeck I want to say that I had a beautiful waitress I think her name is Allison I couldn't remember but at any rate I spent $77 and I come home hungry I got the all you can eat for 35.00and my boy friend got the pick 2 for $20 and we ordered drinks well he ordered shrimp and chicken he ate the shrimps but he couldn't eat the chicken wings now I ordered shrimp and fries for my first plate the fries look to be freeze-dried and dirty and only warm my second plate I ordered fried catfish it was cooked so hard my fork couldn't cut it and it looked burnt so my third plate I ordered baby back ribs well the meat was dark the sauce on it was thick and like glue it stick to your finger you couldn't lick it off had to wet your fingers and use a napkin now my fourth plate was a pork chop well it was big as a steak cut into it in it was raw plus it had a smell that almost made me throw up I wanted to try something else but I couldn't because my disire food went away like I said our waitress was beautiful she took care of us in every way that see could and gave me a carry out of shrimps the best thing I had all night if it wasn't for her I would have only paid half of that bill when I left out of there my boy friend told me don't worry he will take me somewhere else he hate the fact that I was upset and I had been bragging on this place for a couple months remembering how it was about 9 years ago well harbor I will not be back anymore not will I recommend you all to my family in friends also you need to turn those lights up some and please get those rest rooms together my boyfriend said the men's room was ridiculously dirty and if he had went there before he order his food he would have not act at this place 😭 😔 I'm very disappointed I waited so long to come there to celebrate my birthday 🎂 only to have one of the worst birthdays every have a blessed day and good luck please take into consideration everything I have said and do something about it it can only make your business better thank you...

The prices for the food was insane.

We ordered the 2 for $24 and added the salad bar for an additional $5. The salad bar was very basic and a waste of $5 even for 1 salad let alone an all you can eat. The soup seemed old and possibly served for several days in a row. When it came time for our entrees I had got the award winning ribs and shrimp. The ribs were so cold I did not even sample them, along with breaded shrimp which was also frozen bagged shrimp and very plain some were also cold so I ate a few that were warm. Also I had asked for my fries well done in which they were extremely soggy. Our waitress was kind enough to to to ask if I wanted my items remade but at that time I was not confident in the restaurants ability to cook properly and I wants to save myself from potential food poisoning. My friend had also ordered the 2 for $24 with the unlimited sound and salad bar and agreed that it was a very poor salad bar and day old soup. His entree was the fish and pork chop. The fish was very oily and bland. The pork chop was so dry and hard with zero seasoning on it. Hardly worth half the price. I was actually shocked since I was looking forward to a higher class meal not something that would rank below a Coney Island. Our waitress did take some money off our bill but essentially my one salad,a bite of day old soup and 4 shrimp was still $14 which I believe is unacceptable. I cannot recall in the last decade a time where I have had to have something taken off my bill due to poor quality of food. I 10/10 do not recommend this place. If the fish, pork chop and fries were that improperly cooked I would hate to see how any shell fish is cooked or stored.
