This is the 2nd time the restaurant has gotten my order incorrect. The first time was back in November with the same item: loaded papas. I order the loaded papas with green chile and pork. It was brought out with red chile. I asked the waitress to correct it. Not only did she not correct it but ignored me the rest of my family’s time in restaurant. The manager was of no assistance after a family member attempted to speak to him; only saying they were busy and she did her best. Fast forward to today; the restaurant’s second chance. I call in an order for my family. Ordering myself and a family member the loaded papas w/green chile pork. The restaurant is busy when my family member picks the order up after a wait that is well over the time I was told it would be ready. As we are passing the meals out at home, across town from the restaurant, I realize both orders for loaded papas have red chile. I call the restaurant and am told to bring the incorrect orders back to get the correct ones. This now means two of us are not eating with the rest of the family and I have to drive across town. When I arrive, the waitress looks at the plates then asks if I want them? No, I do not want incorrect food. I get my two correct meals along with an order of sopapillas. I guess they were an apology of some type. Not a manager telling me they were sorry or a comped item or coupon for my next visit. I have, in the distant past, enjoyed Juanito’s. I cannot say that is the case the last two visits. I do not feel as if the staff is trained well; from the wait staff taking the order to the wait staff handing it out; to the manager who should go a bit extra for the inconvenienced customer; the customer service is sorely lacking. I do not know when the next visit will be after having the same thing happen two visits in a row. What I will say is I will make sure to check my order when it is to go. The wait staff who answered the phone and took my order did so correctly but the wait staff who bagged it then handed it out did not double check it so I will have to remember that is up to me to do. The wait staff in restaurant from the November visit did not read the order back while at the table or correct it when I pointed out the order was incorrect. Just a...
Read moreI worked for Juan and Mimi Garza 40 years ago . Not long after they opened. I worked there for a year before I tasted his food. The reason being, I wanted to wait until I got off work and eat with my daughter. One day Margarita told me Juan thought I was predigest.
I told her to order me a Deluxe. I will show Him I grew up on Mexican food, has always been my favorite. I will forever be grateful that he pushed me into eating his food. I call it his food and much of it is but it is also a family effort. Behind every successful man there is a strong woman. Mimi. She makes the best , most beautiful stuffed chili peppers. Believe me, there is an art to that. His mother made the tamales. Mario made the football sized Mexican bread. Since then I have traveled in 39 states and order it every chance I get. I can firmly say I have found nothing better.
His children are managing it now and they may give him a run for his money.
If you are traveling through New Mexico , do yourself a favor and put this place on Your list.
They do not need my help to get business; they already have it. You feel like you are South of the border. The atmosphere is amazing. The decor is beyond belief.
Do yourself a favor and go out of your way to experience the most authentic Mexican food in...
Read moreI had a feeling this place might just be a tourist trap for those staying in surrounding motels from the menu. After trying to call constantly to place a pick up order for over half an hour, I just walked in and placed a takeout order. The young lady said it would be 10 to 15 minutes. I came back 25 minutes later and she acted like she’d never laid eyes on me. When i reminded her I’d placed a takeout order, she said shedshe’d go check on it. Five minutes later, some other dead-eyed waitstaff asked if I’d been helped and promptly ran away before I could ask for their assistance. Another five minutes later (35 minutes after my ”10 to 15 minute” order), I was about to go back to the kitchen myself when she emerged. No apology, just a here’s your food, get lost. And guess what was’t in it? Cutlery and napkins … I get that you might not want to waste those by assuming I need them, but could you bother to ask? The fact that you’re in the middle of a bunch of motels and I walked in to place an order should be a clue that I might not be going back to my own home. On top of it all,the food is shockingly mediocre - the chiles rellenos are smothered in cheddar cheese and some tasteless sauce, and the frijoles refritos are clearly just dumped...
