UPDATE June 2025: Made the mistake of stopping here around 3pm on Father's Day. Busy & loud as expected and we were once again disappointed in the service. One person in our party of 4 received her food 10-15 minutes after everyone else, then it took forever for our server to come back to get our check. We were there almost 90 minutes, waiting for our server at least half of that time.

The food & service was very good the first time we visited. However, the second time we were seated next to a large group in the bar area and were ignored for the most part. The noise was hard to take. It took forever to place our order and got no further service until the check was dropped off as the waiter flew by. I realize our server was overwhelmed, but why seat us there when other servers weren't busy? Not pleasant at all. Third time was same result. It's too loud in the bar area where we were seated and then a group of 9 was placed right beside us. Now we were invisible to the server. Food is good but we'll try a...

Silverware was dirty, not just smudged, food dried on it. Not just one set of silverware, nearly every set at our table to the point where I literally washed my own fork with the water from my cup.

The food comes, this place from what I was told was a fairly "upscale" Mexican restaurant. The tostadas looked like they were from taco bell. The beans had shredded cheddar cheese on them. The chips were from a bag. The the peas and corn in the rice were rock hard, looked like they just came out of an uncooked cup of ramen.

Three of the people at our table did not get their food with the rest of the table, and didn't get their food until we asked, which came around the time everybody else was done eating.

Oh yeah, and they got all the tickets wrong. But hey, but it looks like they spent a lot of money decorating so...

I was trying this place for the first time and wanted to try different items, so I ordered from the "build a combo" section -- a cheese enchilada, a steak (street) taco, and a soft taco al pastor. The enchilada was meh -- the sauce was tasty, but the enchilada itself was thin, flat, and chewy. The steak taco was good -- could have used a little more seasoning. The soft taco al pastor was fabulous -- beautifully seasoned pork, hints of smokiness, sweet pineapple. Really good. My husband said that his frozen margarita was good - not the best he's had, but good -- and his chicken fajitas salad was VERY VERY good. Chips and salsa were quickly brought to the table upon arrival, and the salsa was just spicy enough for this gringo. Service was attentive helpful and swift -- tops. ...

So tried this place today. It is in an old grocery store. It has been awhile since I have been in the area and I heard about a Mexican restaurant in Coal Valley, which intrigued me as Coal Valley is small. The atmosphere is great, service was great, and the entree was amazing. I got the Mocajete. Now I will say the chips and salsa weren’t good IMO, the salsa actually tasted like Pace with more chile pepper in it. But the Mocajete was superb, I even brought back left overs. It is a lot of food. The rice and beans are ok, I am very picky on both however I make my own a lot. When I am back again I will definitely eat here.

Very good service and very good lunch steak fajitas. The chips were good, salsa decent. Even the lunch price for the fajitas was good. Lost a star for the $4 horchata with no refills and getting $8 worth of drink charges for lunch. Decent horchata, but the glass was definitely shoved full of ice and at that price, it seemed pricey for the amount, especially without refills. Just don't order that to drink, and you will be very happy here. I didn't check, but you should probably verify that all drinks are not free refills before asking for another...

I’ve been to La Herradura in Coal Valley several times, and it never disappoints. The atmosphere is classy and high-end, but still welcoming. It’s always very clean, and the staff is consistently prompt and attentive. I highly recommend the chicken salad, it’s amazing and honestly hard to finish because of how generous the portion is. For such a nice restaurant, the value is incredible. Definitely one of my go-to spots in the area.
