I stopped here the other day on my way home from Sacramento. Earlier in the week I had dined at their Express BBQ, which was fantastic and had me eager for more.
I had time, so I decided to eat at the ranch's sit down dining. I looked at the Country Kitchen and the Steak House as well, but decided on the Horseshoe Lounge as it had the most atmosphere and unique ambiance of the three, plus they serve the entire menu of the Country Kitchen and being a bar only adults are allowed in. I loved all of the decorations and even the chairs had unique upholstery.
I had no idea about the ranch's history with horse racing or even that it was ranked as the #3 restaurant in California and the #29th best independent restaurant in the Country! After dinner, I knew why it has that ranking. The food was outstanding.
I had the Harris Fresh Salad and the Tri-Tip Sandwich (well done). I almost passed on the Fresh Salad because of the name, out here those are typically unremarkable house salads... boy what a mistake that would have been! The salad was fantastic and I've never thought of putting pistachios in there! It would have been sad to have gone for a Caesar salad and missed this.
The sandwich was delicious and the fries were crispy and hit the spot, especially after driving for three hours and having a pretty stressful long day of meetings.
I only wish I had had time to enjoy their Whiskey Smoked Ribeye, that just sounds like heaven on a plate.
I highly recommend this place if you have the time on your...
Read moreFirst all the food was highly talked about here and it was pretty good left pretty happy.
The service is atrocious, we had about 5 different servers over the course of 2 hours (more on this ). The first server we got came and took our drink orders which was a soda and a beer. We got the soda pretty fast but the beer took another 10-15 mins. When that came we asked the server for another but on draft, he then said they don’t carry that beer on draft but we showed him it was clearly on the menu. He then went to check and came back 10 mins later. (Not sure why since the bar is next to us), once we got the beer we placed our order of simple prime rib we began the waiting game. 45 mins later 3 servers came back saying that they had no prime rib and that we must choose something else . While looking over the menu very sadly and angry about 10 mins later a different server came and said they the do have prime rib and it will be out shortly . We waited another 20 mins for it to come out and we finally ate. The servers needs to be better trained on hospitality and knowledge of what the establishment has. Most of them are just standing around gossiping or on their phones . People around us got impatient as well waiting for a server or their...
Read moreThis place has really gone downhill. We spot here every time we drive to LA from the Bay Area. Used to be a great meal but were very disappointed this visit. They must be under new management or new head chef. Our server mentioned they changed the menu a few months ago, which got rid of a number of items including the portabella burger which was one of our favorites and a great choice that wasn't so heavy. But hey, menus change. My burger which was supposed to be medium was charred on the outside and medium rare on the inside and not juicy/bloody at all. It was also just warm, not hot off the grill. We asked for no bun and got lettuce wrapped burgers, not what we wanted. The sweet potato fries were room temperature, and I heard the adjacent table complain about their fries as well so this appears to be a general problem. We were in a hurry to get back home or I would have sent the food back for a total redo. The best part of my meal was the pickle. The fruit bowl my wife ordered was quite generous and our server Danny was very kind and understanding. Since this is the one nice place to stop along I-5, we'll likely come back to Harris Ranch but try their other restaurant in hopes the kitchen is...
