My husband and were in Coalinga on a business trip, and after reading good reviews about a local hot spot called Los Reyes, we decided to go there for dinner. I usually try not to make a permanant decision about a restaurant on the first visit, but Los Reyes was so bad that my first visit will be my last! Want details? Read on.... The exterior is very cute and colorful, with a cozy little covered patio for al fresco dining that is hidden from the street by a wall of tall, thick shrubbery. However, the parking isn't quite sufficient for the capacity of the dining room. The interior decor is simple, but nice. They have quite a few photographs of historic Coalinga mounted on the walls that I found quite interesting. The restaurant has some of the the cleanest, healthiest, most lush houseplants I've ever seen in a restaurant! The dining room has more of a "diner" feel, than an actual restaurant feel. It's remeniscent of a casual, old-school pizza parlor, with an uneven cement floor, booths and small tables. The service was very good and the staff friendly and polite. The bathroom was clean and adequately supplied. Now, on to the food.... The waitress brought out the customary chips and salsa, and took our drink order. The salsa (if you can call it that) looked and tasted like watered down chili sauce with a few sliced green onions thrown in for texture. The chips were slightly stale and unsalted. Our drinks (water) were delivered promptly, and was very cold and refreshing. The water tasted filtered and was very good (I'm a water snob...lol)! I ordered the "Fajitas Mixtas" (1/2 beef, 1/2 chicken). My husband ordered a ground beef taco and chicken enchilada combo, but recieved a chicken taco and ground beef enchilada...a minor mistake, but his order was wrong, nonetheless. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time, and was nice and hot. My husband's food looked unappealing and bland. I commented that the enchilada sauce looked like watered down canned sauce. He said it tasted like it, too. I sampled a little...it was almost completely tastless! He commented that his entire meal was tasteless and bland. My fajitas were virtually tasteless. I didn't even get a hint of garlic or lime, or even a whisper of the wonderful deliciousness that we've all come to know and love about fajita seasoning! The chicken and thin slices of beef were cooked nicely, not overdone and dry, but still very bland! The onion and green bell pepper were colorless and limp. No carmelizing or charring at all. The rice looked and tasted like the kitchen staff added a little canned tomato sauce for color. The refried beans were the only thing that had any flavor at all, but were garnished with some kind of flavorless, melted white cheese. On a positive note, the flour tortillas are home made, and made to order. Unfortunately, I don't think the cooks at Los Reyes have discovered garlic, pepper, or even salt! One of the reviews I read said that the food at Los Reyes was Americanized Mexican food, but was still very good. Don't trust the reviews! I've had better...WAY better food in hospitals! Our meal was a waste of $25.00+. A good price for dinner for two, but hardly a bargain, considering the quality of the food. I will not return to Los Reyes, and I definitely will not recommend...
Read moreI have been coming here for a couple years now. Whenever I am in town on business this has been a place I always stop. Recently they have increased prices, which is understandable, but you HAVE TO have the correct price in your menu. Notices and labels about price increases are non-compliant. The customer should not have to ask how much each item now costs to know what they are paying.
I was here in March and told the waitress about this. Now it is May; it is the same thing and seems like a scam. Print a new price list to accompany your old menus with the pictures. Print a paper menu until your new ones are finally finished. But to be compliant and fair you need to have your prices posted.
Update Jan 2023: Still have the same old menus and the same signs saying the prices are different. Smart consumers don’t accept...
Read moreMy Mom and I went here for lunch and will not be returning because of the lack of service and tasteless food. Our waitress was a petite lady wearing glasses with blonde in her hair that went to her shoulders, our food was brought out before our drinks. We had to ask for our drinks again before she walked off after dropping off our food because she seemed to have forgotten. We were more than halfway done with our bland food when she finally managed to bring us our drinks. During this whole time that we were waiting on our drinks and food, we watched as other people that had arrived after us were served their drinks and food before us from our own server and others. We won't be...
