Typical country diner with all of the old faithful dishes on the menu
Open face Turkey and roast beef, BLT's, Bacon, sausage, grits, hash brown, eggs, pancakez and everything you could want for breakfast
It,s location kind of caught me off guard and I passed it the 1st time so keep your eyes open when you're going over there
Though it has been quite some time since my 1st visit to the establishment. We were in the area and stop by today
While my 1st trip here everyone enjoyed their food, I cannot make that same claim today
We did arrive after the normal lunch hour and as we came in several of the servers were leaving for the day
The table we chose to sit at apparently belonged to one of the recently departed servers and we sat for quite a while before anyone took our order
But waiting a little bit for a good restaurant is nothing we worry about so let's get on to the food
There were only 2 of us present, one of the lunches was a BLT something that every little diner serves. It was OK but nothing you would go out of your way to return for in a later date
The other lunch dish was hot open face roast beef with mashed potatoes and gravy again a staple of most diners. The gravy had a rather strange color not your typical Brown that you expect gravy to be and It actually looked like it was a cross between turkey gravy and beef gravy
The roast beef was barely above room temperature, it's certainly not to be confused with a hot open face sandwich.
The only part of this meal that was served at a warmer temperature was the mashed potatoes
If this was my 1st experience at this location I would probably never return
However we have had one good experience and 1 bad experience somewhere down the road I will go here for a 3rd time and see which...
Read moreMy husband suggested this restaurant as he had had a good breakfast here recently. He described it as “good homemade food” (but to stay safe he added “but not as good as yours!”, good save!) I like a good unfussy breakfast, and was looking forward to some “homemade” tasting food. We were directed to a booth quickly and greeted by our server for our drink order. Drinks arrived quickly and I was deciding if I wanted to spend carbs on a biscuit. I asked the server if they were homemade. She said “we bake them here”. I clarified my question to “do you MAKE them here” to which she replied, “no, they come in frozen”. Strike one. You CANNOT be a “Country cooking “ restaurant with frozen biscuits. I decided to see how a frozen biscuit was, never having had one. I ordered the Scrambler as did my husband, with a biscuit for me and a pancake for him. There must have been 47 potatoes in each dish, a MOUND of potatoes with 2 scrambled eggs on top. No gravy on mine (ordered that way) a few sparse onions and peppers, and cheese. Potatoes were deep fried which made them nice and crispy. I asked to taste my husband’s gravy as I wanted to see how deliciously they made sausage gravy. I am 99% sure that the gravy was from one of those big 10lb cans you get at a wholesale place. The gravy was blech! It was almost grainy- and mostly flavorless. I should add here that the biscuit was also flavorless- as well as tough as a shoe. You cannot seriously call yourself “Country Cooking” if you cannot get biscuits and gravy right- or homemade. Service was good, atmosphere was busy- but I likely will...
Read moreI have been living in PSJ for almost 25 years and this was my first of what I hope to be very many more visits...
From the outside this was really nothing much to look at and it was marginally better on the inside. But as they say, don't judge a book by its cover, or a diner for that matter. We were greeted upon stepping in and then were sat down promptly. Drinks? Why yes. And soon they were on the table. The waitress was very personable and patient as we ordered and the place was still quite busy for a late Thursday evening.
My wife had their cheeseburger, made to order, big and thick. I had their "lite fare" pork chops, grilled. From the first bite, my wife loved her burger and I was pleasantly surprised with the chop. Though it was a little thinner than I prefer, it was still very good with the accompanying pickled beets. We each started our meal with salads - both with fresh, cold, and crispy - definitely well prepared.
For dessert we had their Italian Cream Cake - what must be the best kept secret in PSJ. This cake was big and thick, without being heavy, and it was heavenly delicious. I am seriously considering ordering one when the holiday's come this year - I most certainly will.
Great little Mom & Pop place with a friendly atmosphere, attentive staff, and solid home cooking. I will most certainly be bringing friends along the next time I have visitors from...
