There are things you wish would never change, but change comes anyway, and it certainly has for Taco Works.
This is a chain of Mexican food trucks here in Hayden, Coeur d'Alene and Post Falls, and I have loved their food for years, I would have put them up against any other taco joint in the area! They had great food, when all the other trucks were closed, they were open, 7 days a week. I think they started out a family business and they worked hard at it, growing and expanding their business one truck at a time, and you would come to recognize them at their different locations because they ran their food trucks themselves.
That was then.
Today, the food, the people and the service have changed.
They have a high turn around in employees, rarely do I see the same person in two visits, and maybe that's a good thing, because memorable service, it is not.
The food was amazing, but now it's no longer consistent, especially from truck to truck, and I find myself asking 'why did I do this again?' all too frequently.
Today, I just wanted 2 of their hard shell tacos, get some of that flavor I've been missing. Half way thru a taco, it occurred to me the hard shell was appreciably harder to chew than I remembered, and carefully removed those pieces that wouldn't cooperate, only to find they were 3 large pieces of styrofoam or heavy paper that had got into a taco.
Either someone deliberately placed them in there, or they accidentally got into the food, but to tell you the truth, I'm not sure which explanation is better. The tacos are small enough, how do you not see that, and if they didn't see it, what other things don't they see?
And then it occurs to me, I've been hearing really good things about a new Mexican restaurant in the Valley...
Read moreI want SO BADLY for this place to succeed but the reality is that the food is just bland and vastly under seasoned. I absolutely love Mexican food in general but every time I've had the opportunity to try this place it has been borderline flavorless. Especially the burritos where you aren't even sure if there's meat in your bite or if it is 100% filler of flavorless rice and beans
Generally I can forgive this because it's great to see food places popping up out here and people genuinely TRYING, but what finally made me decide to write a review was that the food I ordered was STONE COLD on the inside which really makes me question how much care is being put into what I'm being sold.
I sincerely want you guys to succeed and become a hit. You need to be better. The food is bland, it's lacking any authenticity without so much as a fresh veggie to be noticed in things like your burritos. Nevermind a nice pico de Gallo or salsa which can take even a basic dish to the next level. the green sauce/salsa is just not it and doesn't feel like it adds much of anything. And at the very least PLEASE make sure your prepped ingredients or whatever you may be using get not only warm, but hot before getting to your customers.
All the best, and I hope to see you guys succeed and even potentially open a brick and...
Read moreCustomers make sure to check that your total price is correct. Usually love stopping here but just left with no food because of unmarked price changes. The 2 soft taco platter was marked at $9.50 on the menu but was rang up at $12.99. Probably will not be returning unfortunately.
*update in response to owner response- no I did not order steak, I ordered chicken. Yes I get costs are going up so prices must also rise. My issue is the failure to make any attempt to notify customers of those price changes. Spend a couple bucks at the dollar store for some stickers to put over the old prices and write new ones or even just go out with a sharpie and make corrections. When I asked the employee why the stated total did not match the price on the menu I received a stuttered response about the owner trying to get a new sign. Your sign is falling apart and hard to read so that makes sense , but also makes is so you should not care about messing up the sign by writing on it/ making corrections. Even putting a taped up sign on the window or something would be enough. I would have paid the new price if it had been marked as so, as I enjoy your food but do not appreciate basically...
