My five year old daughter and I stopped for a quick breakfast, and we were seated immediately as the restaurant about three-quarters full. We were quickly served OJ and coffee, and ordered (chocolate chip pancakes with bacon for her and a breakfast sandwich for me). Fifty minutes later, after slowly finishing my second cup of coffee I noticed two groups of people who came in after us had already finished and left and the the couple in front us who had just sat down less than 10 minutes before were already being served an eerily similar order. I asked the waitress to come over and asked for the check rather than waste any additional time with an understandably hungry child. The manager (?) came over and began to explain that somehow it was somehow our fault for not being patient enough as the food was just coming off the grill and our order had been delayed by numerous call-in orders. She suggested we should take our food to go if we were in such a hurry. When I pointed out the number of people who came in after us who already been served, including the couple who had just arrived, she told me to told me to have a nice day. Of course we left, but not before she scowled at us about the need to pay her $5, which I was happy to pay even if it was slightly more than the cost of the coffee and OJ. The coffee was ok, and the Homemaker OJ was obviously sub-par, and we didn't have the opportunity to try the food. And it doesn't look like we ever will as this is not a business or attitude I...

I love this little Diner! It’s small, adorable & has great food at a very reasonable price! I called ahead bc I saw they had biscuits & gravy. I was hoping to have breakfast even though it was almost noon. They serve breakfast until 1:15 pm - they close at 2 pm. The young girl took my order over the phone. When I arrived 10 mins later, I asked if I could dine in which she pleasantly said “of course”. She asked me for my drink order. I just opted for ice water. She then delivered my order within minutes. Two eggs up, 1 biscuit & gravy, hash browns. It was a perfect sized order - not a huge plate - more like an oversized salad plate 10-12”D- just the right size! Everything was fresh. The eggs were cooked perfectly. The biscuit was DIVINE. FRESH, LIGHT, FLAKY. The sausage gravy was NOT greasy & was just the right amt of sausage & gravy. Hash browns has a crisp edge but still moist chunks of potatoes. The decor was cute with a bunch of fun whimsical memorabilia. The staff were pleasant, polite & efficient. I will definitely be going back anytime I am...

Decent little local spot. My friend & I were trying to decide on a lunch spot when I thought of this little local “greasy-spoon” diner I had passed many times. (I’m eating low-carb right now so didn’t want the typical fast food joint where options are super limited.) We were seated promptly. Drink orders were taken and menus given. The waitress came to take our order and I ordered a bun-less burger. I questioned if that automatically came with fries- yes. I requested to sub the fries for egg-salad (clearly listed as a side option on the menu), to which she replied she had to see if they had any. After looking into it she informed me that they did have it but it would be an up-charge. Fine with me- I just couldn’t do fries or potato salad. A minute later she returns to tell me sorry, the egg salad is for sandwiches. I declined any side. Why have something listed on the menu as a side if it is not in fact, a side??? I doubt I’ll return when there are delicious diners in the area that are more...

I am grateful for Waze, our GPS app. Since we are unfamiliar with restaurants in Connecticut, I entered “Breakfast Salem CT” We got a list which predictably included Dunkin Donuts and other chains. However, one stood out. Herman’s Diner. We like Mom and Pop places, so we plotted a course. It was a pure 50’s diner with stools at the counter facing the stove and grill. The staff was bustling. Two young men were peeling potatoes at our end of the counter, chatting while they worked. I took pictures of the Moose. They told us they thought the Moose were cool. Of course, they are. The server, a multi-tasking dynamo, said her friend traveled with Gumby, taking pictures everywhere she went. Everything on the menu looked delicious. One of the young men advised that the “biscuits and gravy are the bomb” and “the portions are huge.” He was right. We found gold. This is a little bit of heaven in Connecticut!

This was our first time here. At first glance it’s pretty run down. The parking lot is gravel and it certainly isn’t handicap friendly. Inside was nicer than I thought. We sat at the bar which faces the grill and prep area. IT looks to accommodate about 30 patrons with half able to sit at the bar and the rest sitting at small tables for two people. The grill was packed with kitchen stuff. I enjoyed watching our food cooked but it was very slow. Our waitress was outstanding friendly and took our order quickly. My wife though the coffee was great. The muffins, eggs, and home fries were good but as other people have mentioned, the sausage gravy was very bland. I would go again if in the area. Prices where good. It’s not fancy and can’t accommodate a group of people but overall was an enjoyable experience.

Let me start by saying that the food itself was very good. We sat down at 11:10am, was able to order food at 11:15am. We received our food at 12:05pm. Almost an hour for breakfast. While it was busy, the place is very small and absolutely inexcusable for breakfast to take an hour. Regardless, the eggs were perfectly cooked, the toast was done just right but the hash browns were mush and very oily. Some people might like it that way but I felt they needed to be crispy. The bacon was perfectly cooked. Everything had a small bit of char on it which was the best part. Small Town atmosphere, you know what to expect walking in. You know what's being cooked because you can see it. Overall good experience.
