NEW OWNERS
Ignore all the former reviews (except the good ones!). :-) Yakitori 5 is under new ownership as of a month ago, and it's a great find!
My wife and I had just rolled into town after a long road trip, and were too tired to make our own dinner. We were in the mood for something Asian, and did a quick Yelp search to see what options we had in the Rockrimmon area (this part of town isn't exactly flush with restaurant options). We often wondered about the Yakitori restaurant at Delmonico and Rockrimmon. We were so glad we gave it a try!
Apirat and Ann are the new owners. They moved her from Salida, to give their restaurant a go in the Springs. Aun, their daughter, greeted us at the cash register, and was very engaging and fun to talk to. Her parents were busy cooking in the back. When Apirat and Ann had a moment, they came out to greet us, too. They were equally as nice and engaging as Aun.
My wife ordered the Yakitori & Teriyaki beef, and I ordered the Yakitori & Tatsuta (fried cube beef). We weren't disappointed. The portions were generous, and the flavor was awesome. It was seriously some of the best yakitori and teriyaki we've had. And, the house soup was just as satisfying.
Besides the great food, the new owners have scrubbed this place down. So, if you're concerned with the cleanliness after reading some of the past reviews, don't be. They've raised the bar!
You need to make this your go-to yakitori restaurant. Especially, if you live in the Rockrimmon area. We don't have a lot of choices in this part of town. So, we all need to frequent great mom 'n pop restaurants like this, in order to keep them here. We've already been back, again, in just a week! And, we were just as pleased with our second experience, as we were the first!
Give them a try. You won't be...
Read moreWe always went for the yakitori chicken before we knew how incredible the curry could be! Simply amazing heat, with imported peppers and 5 lvls of spice to choose from, a 5 will cut through the cold and leave you sweating, but never in an overbearing or unpleasant way! Expect a hard-working, family run atmosphere that has a quaint charm. Their take-out is superb as well. This place has become a staple for us as affordable, local food with flavors from many exotic eastern favorites that also makes my favorite onion rings. A strange wonderful fusion of american loves and traditional splendors new to my palate. Those who appreciate really spicy food should be pleased; ask nicely for as hot as she can make it ^^ Those who love sweet perfectly grilled chicken on a skewer will love it as well. Affordable specials make this place great for any budget. I could eat curry like...
Read moreMy only issue with this restaurant is that the pad Thai doesn't consistently taste the same.
I've been frequenting this spot for the past month, trying out several items on their menu: pad Thai (chicken and special), crab rangoons (crab delight), coconut shrimp, shrimp shumai, Thai tea, Thai coffee, Thai donuts, and cucumber salad.
The pad Thai never tasted as good as the first time I purchased it (I purchased this dish about 3 or 4 times), and I didn't really like the coconut shrimp (it was tasty but too batter-y for me - I know that's not a word). Still, I fell in love with their crab rangoons, shrimp shumai, Thai donuts (which come with condensed milk), and cucumber salad (so much so that I wanted to try and replicate this salad at home).
I haven't had the opportunity to dine-in at this location, but I have enjoyed the benefit of having their meals...
