After a busy Sunday morning, we were ready to settle down and enjoy some brunch. We decided to go south and enjoy Susie’s Westside Cafe.
Walking into this establishment will give you all of the diner vibes! The seating area is cozy but fits the ambiance and vibe to a tee. Getting to watch the cooks in the kitchen makes you feel apart of the atmosphere.
This family-owned establishment is true to its name as we had Susie the owner, be our waitress. She was everywhere and doing everything and her staff were all very attentive. The customer service was beyond impressive seeing that they were pretty busy the entire time.
We ordered a lot of food without knowing it, but we didn’t have any food the entire day and it was almost 11:30. After being up for 8 hours, we were starving.
We ordered a cinnamon roll and the full order of biscuits and gravy to start. These two items were highly recommended by others online and are what brought us to Susie’s.
These came out fast and we were able to grab one of the last cinnamon rolls - which means if you want a cinnamon roll - come earlier than we did or else you might not get to try it!
The cinnamon roll was beyond dreamy. The cream cheese frosting with the delicious warm cinnamon notes made this the highlight of the brunch. Both my wife and I love how the texture was perfect and incredibly sweet. I’m still dreaming about that cinnamon roll even a few days later!
The biscuits and gravy is a generous portion and did not disappoint on the amount of gravy. There were a few bites though that were pretty cold rather than warm. That wasn’t ideal, but still a good hearty plate of biscuits and gravy.
We then both ordered pancakes and we were not prepared to see that these were MASSIVE pancakes. We both ordered a side of bacon and I ordered some hash browns.
The pancakes are good and compliment the syrup well. I finished my plate with no complaints.
We loved the bacon; however, the hash browns needed some seasoning love as by themselves they are a little bland.
Overall, this is a solid option in the Springs to go get breakfast, especially considering the price came out to under $40 (before tip) for a substantial amount of food. We will...
Read moreCame here for breakfast, arrived around 11am on a Sunday. Inside seating was full, but there was a table available outside, which we took, and thus where all of our problems began.
Drink orders were taken and filled quickly, followed by our food orders. After that, no one checked on us. Waited about 40 minutes to receive our food, only to have 2/3 of the orders arrive. The 3rd order arrived about 5 minutes later. Asked for waters and more coffee that never came out. All of the plates were cold, and most of the food was either cold or luke warm. One order was completely incorrect, not sure if it was a kitchen mistake or what, but it was two different dishes combined to cover up the mistake.
Insult to injury was the party that was seated behind us (outside) before our food came out received their drinks and food within 5 minutes of ordering.
Also note, they don't tell you beforehand that they only provide checks once you get up and go inside and there's even a significant wait for that in a cramped area at the front. No detailed checks, just a list of prices and a total, which has to be explained to make sure that you're paying for the right things. Go inside when you're done eating or wait forever for someone to see if you're still alive.
For a place so small (10-15 tables), with what appeared to be about 6-7 personnel working; Cold, mediocre food and absolute miserable service is wildly unimaginable and unacceptable.
After reporting our experience to the clerk at the register, I was asked, "Then why did you bother to pay for it?!?" and I replied that we had already eaten the food (and it seems rude to eat and then not pay). Walked out the door and was chased down with an offer for a refund, which I refused, because as I said earlier we had consumed the food.
Really was hoping to find a locally-owned gem, but disappointment doesn't properly describe this experience. The 5-star reviews confuse me, so maybe it was because we were outside that we were basically forgotten, over...
Read moreMy husband and I have come here before and the food was okay and the staff was friendly. We happen to come on the Sunday of Mother’s Day. It was packed, which was to be expected. Upon checking in, they said it would be a 10-15min wait and we could wait in our car. That was completely fine with us. The girl at the front took my name and number and I saw her write it down. While we were waiting my dad kept pointing out there was a lot of people going in and yet they hadn’t called us. At this point it’d been 22 minutes. My husband calls them just to check in and make sure they hadn’t forget about us and the lady says, “we called 3x a didn’t get an answer so we gave your spot away”. I never received a call. That was just infuriating because I legitimately watched the girl write down my number as I gave it to her. Had my husband not called. We’d been sitting there like idiots waiting for no reason, which we did. I want to assume because they were busy, the lady just lied and never called. They did say there was a table and if we were fine sitting with other people but we did not want to do that, so we kindly declined. We will not...
