I normally love this place. It is close to where I live, and the food is usually on point, but my last few visits have been disappointing. The rolls have gotten smaller and are more expensive. The quality is still good when the rolls are made right. I ordered online tonight, and I let them know that my 16.00 roll was missing one of the sauces and had no avocado, which I love, so I was bummed. At first the girl offered to help but I ordered other food and told her I didn't want to come back in right now, and I was honest that I would eat the roll that wasn't made correctly and to be honest, I didn't know what I wanted. She did apologize at the end that there wasn't something they could do for me. But she also tried to convince me the other sauce was under the green sauce and it was almost invisible because it was so translucent, which I assured her the only way it was this invisible is if it actually is invisible because it was only one sauce. It almost sounded like the manager or owner, not sure who it was, didn't believe me that my roll was not made right. And he said he would replace it if I came back in, which I alrwady said, I was earing the other food I ordered and did not want my sushi to get gross while I drove back for them to remake my meal. I don't notmally leave reviews, but this whole experience was super disappointing, so maybe if you want your order correct, eat it there. Because they aren't very sympathetic for their mistakes, though the girl who answered the phone was super friendly and apologetic. That was why I decided to just eat the roll the way it is and just leave this review. The roll I ordered comes with shrimp tempura and asparagus inside and outside it was supposed to have tuna, shrimp, spicy tuna, and two sauces. It was missing the avocado and the other sauce, which are minor and why I would eat it without the inconvenience of going back but when its 16 dollars, I want it the way I expected it to come. The roll is the R.J Roll, and it is the one in the middle. The other rolls were correct, but the Mile High rolls pieces were not cut all the...
Read moreWe've been coming here for over a year and have always really enjoyed the sushi. We usually order for pickup so we can take all the amazing food home and eat it together as a family. Today we tried to eat at the restaurant and we were reminded why we don't do that here. First off I want to say that Becky was amazing and made us feel like family. The issue was the timing and order our food came out to the table. Three of us ordered sushi and one of us ordered yakisoba. The appetizers arrived very fast, then the yakisoba but the sushi was about 30 mins after. So one of us was just sitting there while the rest of us finally got to eat. All in all we were there an hour and a half almost and we didn't get the sushi till the last 15mins of our visit. The young blonde waitress didn't mind coming to our table to get our drink order even after we sat there for over 10mins but instantly asked us if we were ready to order our food. Just seems like she wasn't trained right. Again I want to say, the food here is amazing and one of our favorite spots to get sushi. Just don't think we will eat in the restaurant ever again. Every time we come in and sit down it seems like the food trickles to the table and takes forever. Ordering for pickup is the way to go and that's what we will do from now on. If the food came out faster and the first waitress was more attentive then I would've given a 5 star. Would still recommend this place but maybe just for pickup not to eat in the restaurant. Again, Becky made it all better but there was nothing she could do about the sushi chefs taking forever to make our rolls. Definitely will eat food from here again. Just not in...
Read moreUPDATE... We have been driving past several sushi places to come to Umi since my last review. It was our favorite. Key word...was. Something has changed. We started to notice about a year ago. No longer the sushi chef or even anyone we recognize. Just a couple young guys during dinner rush. Different staff everytime and now, looks like they have 1/2 the staff needed. The sushi cuts are sloppy, the rolls aren't tight, the rice even tasted stale. And today, no one ever came back to check on us. Why? Because the poor girls were running their ass's off. One of the chefs we did recognize came out from the back and went to a table, I think family as I recognized one of them also. We've had 3 not great experiences. Kept trying, just one more time because we loved this place so much. Not anymore. When did you start the all you can eat? Was that about a year ago? I guess some people love it. Good luck.
There is a reason Umi Sushi deserved 5 stars. Wow!!! Now my new favorite sushi restaurant in Colorado Springs. Ambience, service, food EXCEPTIONAL! Can't wait to come back. We had summer, rainbow, 911, fried oysters and yellowtail sushi. Plus 2 bottles of premium sake. LOVE this place! Congratulations Sushi Iron Chef 'Chef Jin' ...
