I’m writing this with deep frustration and disappointment following a truly appalling experience at Billy Lee’s in Bexley. What was supposed to be a joyful outing with family quickly turned into one of the most embarrassing and disheartening moments we’ve ever experienced at a restaurant.
Despite a lively and friendly atmosphere where nearly every table was enjoying conversation, we were singled out by the owner, Anne, and told we were “too loud.” Her tone, body language, and complete lack of professionalism were rude, aggressive, and downright disrespectful. It wasn’t just what was said—it was how it was said. Her approach was completely uncalled for and humiliating.
What makes this even more disturbing is that we watched this same behavior being directed disproportionately toward multiple Black patrons. It was clear, and painfully obvious, that this wasn’t about volume—it was about race. This wasn’t a one-off misstep; this was targeted, discriminatory treatment that no one should ever have to experience—especially in a place we’ve patronized and recommended to others for years.
Billy Lee’s just lost our business and the business of every friend and family member we’ve ever brought or referred here. I sincerely hope the owner reflects on this behavior and learns that respect, inclusion, and equality matter. Being white is not being right—and treating people with dignity should never be optional.
Do better, Billy Lee’s. This was...
Read moreMy family and I decided to eat at this restaurant last night. And I’m appalled at the disrespectful comment at the end of our meal by the hostess who is probably the owner of the restaurant. The waitress brought out one bill for three people. And because we asked for the bill to be split she said well I hope you at least still tip your waitress. Now there are times where I will buy everyone’s food . This was not one of them. A good waitress would have asked how we wanted the bill. There were a lot of assumptions going on from the staff at this restaurant. The waitress assumed one person was paying for everyone. And the hostess assumed because we asked the check to be split that we didn’t have money to pay and would not tip our server. Her comment was rude and extremely offensive and unprofessional and it left a bad taste in my mouth about this restaurant. Should I assume this restaurant judged me and my character and deemed me unworthy. Yes I do. I can afford my meal and tip. And I always tip. And I’m grown and a customer and do not need the staff here dictating or demanding anything from me. The owner and hostess almost cost the waitress her tip. Tip treat your customers fairly and nicely with respect...
Read moreI use to love this restaurant, I've been coming to Billy Lee's since I was a teenager. I ordered take out and while I was eating it, I bit down on a piece of glass that was in my food, subsequently shattering my tooth. When I called, I was told to come back in and they'd give me free food when that was the last thing I wanted when I couldn't eat anyway. When I confronted them with pictures of the glass covered in their food, the glass and the receipt and my 1125 dollar dental bill I was met with backhanded questions and remarks, I barely received a genuine apology. Accidents do happen, but this meal cost me 1100 dollars. And, after years and years of patronage, I have come to learn that their customer service is less than stellar. I will never be returning to this restaurant, solely based on customer service alone. There are plenty of other Chinese food restaurants in the area that serve the same food, for less and you'll receive better...
