Honestly fantastic. It’s no 5 star restaurant, but it is a wonderful experience for my fellow loners. Its high point hours aren’t too bad, but still busy enough to be a testament to their good quality service and products.
The meads are WELL worth the visit. The Amberwood mead is like a bouquet of flowers to the face! It’s floral in scent, and woody in flavor. I NEVER thought that something earthy would make for a good drink, but here I am singing its praises! It’s exactly what I find a fancy medieval lord would drink. And the earl grey raspberry cyser? Best of the bunch in my opinion! It’s light in alcohol, but fruity and delicious! I asked for a bottle, but it’s still new and undecided if they should sell it as such a I am going to stalk their website until I see it appear! I swear it!
The food is also tasty! I am a SNOB for a good reuben sandwich, and theirs is delectable. Not too filling, but hot, fresh, and flavorful. Honestly refreshing compared to other greeseball reubens I’ve had.
In short, it is a darn well worthwhile experience. Somewhat pricey, but still cost effective if you wish for a memorable bar experience. I would suggest coming on a Friday for pirate night.
I didn’t even bother with the ax throwing, but the scenery is still lovely...
Read moreWhat a fun, magical place! And the mead is delicious! We tried the flight to sample 3 and I liked the lavender, so of course, had another. The back deck has a great view with intimate seating. And they have a HUGE bonfire pit made of a steel “granite crusher” bowl. There are picnic tables and seating areas around the fire, too. You can come by boat and tie up as well.
The water and rocky ledges to view are beautiful. You can be YOU here…cosplay, fantasy, or come as you are.
The food truck is delicious and can serve breakfast all day and evening. They are only closed on Mondays.
The Friday night we visited, there were trenches dug up in the outside areas for creating additional sound and lighting. Look! They even have a trebuchet for fun festivals that they host. The next flinging is in Oct., plus the very nice, cool owner is building a huge medieval room using the back of the building…so stay tuned.
Great, friendly staff, live music, beautiful scenery and outdoor spaces, very large and clean restroom, delicious mead (and at least one tap beer), table games, with dungeons and dragons on Sunday night at 5…it is a cool experience! We look forward to...
Read moreMy wife and I stopped here after a heartbreaking trip to the nearby Flowering Bridge... and thank goodness. On one of the worst days of my life, the view was great, the staff was delightful, and this was the tastiest mead I've ever had. Wanting something light to eat, I got the veggie sandwich, and it was outstanding. Well seasoned, well balanced. We got a mead flight. The Lavender was dry and complex, and I ADORED it. My wife's favourite was the Hibiscus Slushie. Both were lightly sweetened, and I've found, for the first time, that I vastly prefer this kind of mead to the cloying, syrupy kinds I've had from many a meadery. ...The nerd in me was madly in love with the Lavender mead, but with food, I went with a full glass of the Traditional.
Aside from that, ...lovely surroundings, nerdy music, good company, friendly and competent staff.
Although I live a thousand miles away, I will someday return to Lake Lure, ...a resting place of two of my dearest loved ones, and when I do, I will drink fine mead and throw axes, and it...
