The most impressive destination that brought us to new heights (seriously!) Here's our story!!

After having surgery 10 days prior, my husband suggested getting me out of the house to pick up my spirits. He brought me for my very first visit to Chimney Rock. The elevators weren't working, so he asked if I was up to trying to walk up those stairs, and I said I was... Oh boy! It took some effort (especially since it was very hot that day). The amazing part of walking up those stairs is there are platforms about every 10-12 steps, so everyone can stop, rest, take a few deep breaths, drink some water (make sure you bring a bottle of water for each person) and then go up the next set of steps. Oh! And I'm afraid of heights too!!

On the way up, there are caves and places to visit and walk through - this made the jaunt upwards more fun! (Note, there were no bats in the Gneiss Cave!! But, use your phone light to guide you down; there are about 8 or so steps downward, but very intriguing and worth the visit!)

We continued to ascend those steps - I didn't think I could make it, but the folks coming down encouraged us on!! It was almost like a team relay march up and down the steps! There was encouragement from almost every single person we met - and of course we paid it forward by encouraging others! One gentleman we met had really bad knees, and he made it too!!

Just before the last steps to the very top, there's a long platform with a store - just outside is a water fountain PLUS two bowls for dogs to drink from (I was very impressed with this setup for the dogs - it also gives the humans a place to fill your own bottles of water instead of needing to purchase a bottle of water). Mike and I went into the store, which had just re-opened up their doors again that day after renovations were completed!, and we purchased water bottles and healthy protein bars (I forgot ours in our vehicle, so we were very happy the store sold them). We chatted with the two women who worked there, they were not only very helpful, but super nice, and alot of fun to just chat with them! We bought a few Chimney Rock items too!!

Onward & upward, as the saying goes!! We marched up those last 25 or so steps to the very top. OMG!! The view is seriously SPECTACULAR!! It overlooks the mountains but also Lake Lure. I was mesmerized at the same time as being nervous about just how high we were! My husband was so impressed that I walked around taking photos - I couldn't help it. It was such a stunning view. I was impressed that I did it (if I can do this, you can too))! Then it was time to descend the stairs. We encouraged everyone we met going up to keep going, don't give up!!

We were told at the store at the bottom of Chimney Rock that they believe the elevator will be fixed shortly, for those who can't take the steps (call before you go there). It may be a long climb upwards, but if you can, try to walk up. I never thought I could, but Mike encouraged me - along with pretty much everyone we met - to keep going, and I did it! 👍👌👏 Lol

I highly - HIGHLY - recommend visiting Chimney Rock and Lake Lure! You will not regret it, and you'll never forget your...

Chimney Rock State Park: A Breathtaking Ascent into Nature's Wonderland

Chimney Rock State Park, nestled in the foothills of North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains, is more than just a park – it's a breathtaking ascent into nature's wonderland. From the iconic Chimney Rock itself to cascading waterfalls, hidden coves, and panoramic vistas, this park offers something for every adventurer.

Nature's Masterpiece: Chimney Rock

The star of the show is undoubtedly Chimney Rock, a 315-foot natural monolith that juts dramatically from the landscape. Ascend to the top via the scenic elevator or lace up your hiking boots and conquer the Chimney Rock Trail, rewarded with breathtaking views of Hickory Nut Gorge and the surrounding countryside.

Waterfall Wonders:

Hickory Nut Falls, a two-tiered cascade plunging 120 feet into the gorge below, is a sight and sound to behold. Hike the Hickory Nut Falls Trail for up-close views and the refreshing mist, or take in the panorama from the Hickory Nut Gorge Overlook.

Hidden Gems:

Venture beyond the main attractions and discover the park's hidden gems. Explore the mysterious Crack in the Rock, a narrow passageway that splits Chimney Rock in two. Hike the Hidden Cove Trail to a secluded waterfall and swimming hole, or take a boat tour on Lake Lure, the park's crown jewel.

Adventure Awaits:

Chimney Rock State Park caters to all levels of outdoor enthusiasts. Rock climbers can test their skills on the park's challenging routes, while families can enjoy a leisurely picnic or explore the Discovery Center. For the more adventurous, there's ziplining, rappelling, and even a ropes course.

A Park for All Seasons:

Chimney Rock State Park offers year-round beauty and activities. Spring brings wildflowers and cascading waterfalls, summer beckons with swimming and hiking, autumn paints the landscape in fiery hues, and winter transforms the park into a wonderland of frosted peaks and cozy cabins.

More Than Just a Hike:

Chimney Rock State Park isn't just about stunning scenery. It's a place to reconnect with nature, create lasting memories, and experience the magic of the Blue Ridge Mountains. With its convenient location near Asheville, it's the perfect weekend getaway or a scenic stop on a road trip.

Wanted 2 do this place cause it's 1 of the 7 wonders of North Carolina! Its not far from Ashville! I have been 2 alot of places in this state its 1 of my favorite & I think my 1st state 2 explore done the BlueRidge Parkway, GreatSmokey Mtn Np & some more places! Lets talk about Chimney Rock tho! The drive getting 2 here was amazing something about driving thur the mtns on 2 lanes & backroads! I stay off the hwy when possible, we went thur Lake Lure this town was absolutely beautiful! U can see the Lake & town from atop the rock! Then we arrived in town of Chimney Rock! Drive 2 the state park arrive @ the1st gate enter take the short drive up the mtn 2 the ticket both 34 dollars 2 get in after 4 use the ticket 2 get back in then next day free! Heres the bs the lady @ the ticket both didn't tell us theirs a shuttle bus 2 get up 2 of the mtn😡 All she told us was about the trails! So we get 2 the gravel parking park walk 2 the beginning of the trial & start hiking 1.5 up the mtn elev gain of 400ft! This trail is really real! Its a dirt path thur the woods wit rock, wooden, & metal stairs in places alot of stairs, wooden bridges, ,switch backs! Once u finish that trail theirs a split 2 the water fall trail r onwards 2 Chimney! U have a about 500 metal stairs up 2 the next stop a gift shop & a elevator inside the mtn 2 the sky lounge we didnt know bout either people of the trail told us! Come out & climb more stairs 2 the rock & even more stairs if ur brave enough 2 even higher views above Chimeny ! Its very easy going down the trail but up whole different story. I seen kids on the trails! Overall it was amazin a must do! Almost died but had fun!The views from the top r just spectacular! The park has bathrooms after the ticket both & atop the mtn. It has a shuttle bus up & down the mtn so if u dont want 2 hike r unable 2 u can still get up the mtn plus an evelator!
