First visit. Sunday, 12/30/18 Early New Years celebration for 6 adults.
I've heard the rave reviews of Wings for years. Every time we roll down Main St. through Bexley, we point and say "we need to go". This time I made the reservation, and told my friends where we were going for our New Years gathering. I was skeptical at first. You read reviews, stare at photo's. I was worried I had just booked a special occasion at a wood table with paper placemats, and napkins. Those photos are all from lunch. Dinner is white linen tablecloths and napkins(see pic). The flowers on the table are fresh. The bathrooms were remodeled and expanded in 2016(see pics). The menu and furniture is a bit dated. There is a respectable amount of parking in the private lot. The wine and liquor list is extensive. We did not have a Scotch drinker in our party, but the list displayed many brands that this former bartender had never heard of.
We were immediately greeted upon entering, by a friendly, smiling woman at the hostess stand. Our table was all set up and waiting. A chilled bottle of Plum wine and champagne flutes were shared. Next came the cocktails, followed by appetizers. The hand rolled egg rolls were crispy, golden brown, and stuffed with shrimp & pork(see pic). I must say I was jealous of my friends Hot & Sour soup(see pic). It was so thick, and hearty. Like a stew. He said it had a great flavor balance as well. The condiments were spicy mustard and a sweet, tart lemon sauce. Red sweet & sour sauce was available upon request.
I asked our server what the house specialties are. There is no "Chef Recommendations" on the menu. He said "it's all about the sauce". I wanted spicy, so he suggested the spicy brown. Choosing my proteins and some vegetables... led me to the Sichuan Combination(see pic & description). It is a tasty sauce, but I could use some more heat when warning with a colored red pepper on the menu. My meats were a hit and miss of tender and chewy. There was a generous portion with steamed rice. Others were pleased with their Kung Pao, Sesame, and Mongolian. The Prime Rib Special was too far medium for a medium-rare meat. These are also guests who don't believe in sending the plate back, to give the restaurant a chance to make it perfect. They could have sliced from a different part of the prime rib. Great service for the most part. When we loitered over drinks and conversation, our server was a bit more scarce.
In Conclusion We will definitely return. The food was good, and priced right. The service and atmosphere are also good. I want to work my way around the menu, and update the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been an east Columbus native for over 25 years, road past this restaurant for YEARS and never visited until 01/28/2025. When I tell you by far we received the worst treatment that I have ever had in all of my life and I have had some pretty poor experiences being a black woman in some of these establishments, but this one takes the cake! First off we sat and waited and watched as they served other more preferred customers who came in well after us. They served us cold old dry hard rice that had been sitting for who knows how long, the vegetables (broccoli and carrots) that the waiter told me were included in my food were not cooked and cold as if they came out of a refrigerator, our waiter KEPT pretending not to hear us solicit her assistance. When we finally did get to tell her, she treated us as if we were lying when we offered her to touch it and confirm. They took the old rice, added soy sauce, warmed it up and gave it back to us. THE SAME OLD RICE. I paid $27 for a meal that I never even ate due to how horrible it was. The man at the bar, I loved him but everything else about this experience was a zero out of zero and if I could have rated this restaurant a negative number, I would have! If youāre like me and been seeing this restaurant for years but never ate hereā¦DONāT! I will NEVER be returning to this restaurant which Iām sure they donāt care because their concern is their regulars. And, I donāt want to make it about race, but we were the only black customers in the restaurant at the time we entered and we were treated as if we were not even there. Love the bar, hate the food...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOn 1/28/25 I and my sister with a friend went to this restaurant for the first time, and letās just say āI will not be visiting again ā. It starts with the lack of customer service our waiter had no clue about the food nor the drinks. When She finally got the order taken the bartender had to retake our drink order because not only did she not know the drinks she couldnāt spell them nor say the name correctly.things just went down hill from there, it took us an hour to receive our food which was not only cold but old and had been sitting out due to the waiter so worried about serving the other guests that walked in the door.when trying to let the server know about the food being cold( frozen vegetables and old cold rice) she immediately became offensive stating that she didnāt know that she needed to touch the plate . There were issues with the appetizers as well , calamari was overly breaded with no season crab. Rangoon didnāt have the cream cheese with the crab filling in most of them and when I spoke about it, she brought me back to instead of replacing what wasnāt there. When I asked for things to be replaced she took my rice Port soy sauce on it, heat it up and gave it to me to go. One of the worst experiences Iāve ever had at a restaurant customer service nonexistence experience with food and customers donāt have ambience, old and outdated drinks, overpriced lemonade, water down the best part about the whole entire experience was the bread that we received 30 minutes after ordering and the water that came once...
