A very disappointing first time customer experience on Tuesday December 26, 2017 dining with our daughter who lives near Rubino’s having just graduated from Capital. It started with a fire in their pizza oven that filled the small seating area with smoke and a horrible smell that caused burning eyes, coughing and lingered in everyone’s hair and clothing. The worse part of the experience was in incompetent waitress who couldn’t handle the post Christmas “rush” of handling the 5 tables that had guests not including the takeout orders that were handled at the walk-in counter. It was self seating and after waiting 15+ minutes to attempt to place a food order or get a beverage order placed my wife and daughter placed our order at the take out counter. This seemed to irritate the stressed out waitress who finally came over and brought our drinks and said she needed to confirm our order (I guess this is how she makes herself part of the process and “earn” a tip???) We waited 45 minutes from that point and watched every other table that came in after us get their “square-cut” pizzas first. This was obviously our punishment for ordering at the counter. We finally received our pizzas which were pie cut (this request obviously blows peoples minds), and my wife asked the waitress (I use this term lightly) where the extra cheese was that we ordered on the large pizza. She leaned over with her pony tail hanging over our pizza and pointed out anywhere you could see the limited cheese they used and proceeded to tell us that it must be under the toppings, it wasn’t! She accidentally knocked over my beverage which was 3/4 full and asked us to hand her napkins out of the dispenser to clean it up. To top things off, she never replaced the spilled drink. The pizza was good but could have been better with an overall better service experience. For a well known pizza establishment in business since 1954, you would expect that by now they would be able to get it right. I would suggest avoiding this place at all costs as their are much better options with staff that have personalities and social skills that are lacking...
Read moreI don't like to give bad reviews, however I don't understand why there's so many positive reviews on this place. My boyfriend and I were looking to try a new place and love Italian food so we passed by Rubinos and decided to check it out. With all the good reviews, we thought it would be delicious food and a great experience, but that was not the case. We got a large pizza, raviolis and a salad, the best item was the salad. The pizza had no cheese on it, the crust was burnt and the pepperoni are big slices of weird meat. The raviolis were pretty good as well as the salad, but the pizza was horrible. As first time customers, we were nothing special or even ordinary for that matter because the customer service was poor. My boyfriend asked if they minded to cut our pizza in slices instead of squares, and we got a rude comment from what looked like the owner, stating rudely he would "do it this time but would charge us next time". This and the atmosphere turned us off initially but we took the food home and it sealed the deal of a bad experience. Not only this but the food messed up our stomach. Both of us were up in the middle of the night on the toilet, with diarrhea and stomach cramps. Needless to say, we won't be back.....ever...and won't ever recommend. (I included a...
Read moreYou walk in, and there are booths along the walls, as well as larger tables in the middle surrounded by familiar banquet hall chairs. Pizzas are made on the other side of the counter. The menu is simple yet effective: it features pizzas, ravioli, and spaghetti. Cans of soda cost $1, and final checks are written by hand. There are plenty of regulars, and the staff greets many of them by name. Rubino’s is a Bexley institution. This is a cash only location
Rubino’s is a strong contender for the title of King of Bexley Pizza, alongside Bexley Pizza Plus and, to a lesser extent, Anthony’s. I appreciate the style points for its longevity and old-school charm—there’s no delivery and no cardboard boxes; instead, they use ingenious folded paper tents. When I ordered by phone, they answered using what is likely their original black countertop rotary dial phone.
Rubino's serves thin-crust pizza, and we always request extra cheese. The tomato-based sauce is of the traditional variety, and there are no specialty ingredients; this is strictly old school. The pizza is delicious—it's the kind of pizza that defined pizza in the U.S. back in the day. I like to order mine with extra cheese for full coverage, along with whatever toppings I'm in...
