Benito's Pizza — Restaurant in Commerce Charter Township

I USEDTO love this place! I ordered once a week every week UNTILL... while I was waiting for my pizza the last time i was in I witnessed following: the employee that was making pizza pulled out each of the collection trays under the grates and literally sorted throughout them putting the nasty dirty garbage ingredients back with the fresh and clean ingredients disgusting and food allergies beware. All the employee were not wearing any form of aprons and were covered in doe, sauce, ingredients *food etc. from the stomach down to the knee front and back. I witness the kid that was making the pizzas and "sorting" the ingredients wipe his hands clean on his butt. He had his back towards me at one point and whe he turned back to the side I could see him chewing. Then, while he was thowing something away he used his hands to pack the garbage down proceeded walking back to make pizzas looked back at me to see if I was watching realizing that i was he then turned around and went back to wash his hands. Also, there was a crusty pizza sause bucket with sauce all over it sitting out with the lid off the whole time. Nobody was wearing food handling gloves or had their hair tied back. Oh ya and there is a pipe coming up from the floor about 2 feet high in the center of their work area with a bucket over the top. I assumed enough people tripped over it to prompt a bucket. Needless to say I was absolutely terrified to eat my pizza and completely disgusted by what I had seen. I ended up throwing away my pizza I was too grossed out and frankly scared. Learly i will never eat from there again. I'm thinking a call to the health department is the responsible thing...

So I am in town visiting, I have never had Benito's pizza but did a Google search and the photos looked good. I placed a delivery order at 5:13pm to be delivered at 7:30pm. the email told me it would arrive between 7:30 and 7:40 p.m. which I was fine with. A little after 7:40 p.m. I decided to track my order and it said it was just now being made I was a little upset and I called the store to find out what was going on all they told me was there was a glitch in the system and they just received the order they didn't offer me anything to accommodate that I specifically placed an order hours earlier to be delivered at a certain time for a reason. I asked for some form of a discount and they said they could give me a credit towards my next order when I explained I'm from out of town I don't need a credit on my next order I need a credit on my order right now all they offered me was basically $3 off I'm very disappointed that they didn't come to offer me something right away and I basically had to beg for some kind of discount or acknowledgement to the fact that they said there was a glitch in their system... that's not my fault and honestly 3$ off is basically the delivery fee...that really is not good customer service. You could have offered me extra food for free honestly probably should have given me at least $10 off I just feel maybe you need to work with your management a little bit more on how to handle situations like this. The food is good, the way management handled the situation is...

We were so excited to share the Big Benito with out of town guests and when we went to pick up our pizzas, we were told they didn't have our order and that we probably called another store. Since the cell phone has a record of numbers called, we knew we had called the Carroll Lake store. It would not have been a problem for me if the girl had just admitted her mistake instead of shifting the blame to me. Spoke to the manager who also was very little help. Customer service in this case was absolutely terrible. This is a shame since we do many parties and would be very hesitant to order here again. UPDATE - I heard from the owner of the Commerce Benito's tonight and she was very nice and apologetic for what had happened to us. We have family coming in from Alberta next month so will definitely try this again. I originally gave this place one star due to the treatment we received, but I have changed it to 4 stars because the pizza has always been excellent in the past and I hope that the owner lets her employees know that mistakes can happen - and that it is best to own up to them instead of trying to blame...
