About a month ago I walked in the door and the Cook and the waitress were in a chair in plain view of anyone walking in the door. They were wrapped up looking like they were trying to moleste each other. I waited for almost 10 minutes before they knew I was there. The waitress finally got up and I told her I wanted a table for one. She seated me and brought me a menu then walked off and came back about 5 minutes later. I was the ONLY person in the dining area. She took my order and I told her I wanted a glass of sweet tea and the shrimp chima changa. When she brought my order she forgot the silverware and napkin and sweet tea. She brought the tea but still no silverware or napkin. I had to ask for them again. When she finally brought them she just dropped them on the table and walked off. She undoubtedly was in a hurry to resume her romantic activities and did not come back to ask if I needed anything else. From what I could see of the kitchen area when I walked in it did not appear to be very clean. The dining area was dimly lit and the light bulb nearest my table was burned out. The waitress finally took a break from her romantic adventures and I paid my check and regretted that I had wasted my money on the meal. It was not good at all. I will never return to this place ever again and I am telling everyone I know to avoid the El Rio. The city or county should do an unannounced inspection and close the place down until they can manage it in a...
Read moreIF YOU ARE BLACK, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE! There is a clear descrepancy between the treatment of black customers and non-black customers at this establishment. The non-blacks are welcomed with warm smiles, while the blacks are ignored and made to wait for long periods of time. During my visit, I was treated like a subclass citizen and made to feel like my business was not wanted there. I was not greeted as I walked through the entrance, despite there being a cashier at the counter, who was doing absolutely nothing! There was no one in line before me, so there was absolutely no reason for me to wait five minutes to even be acknowledged. After my order was placed, my food was brought out within minutes. The food was not fresh and was thrown together. The most distasteful part of this visit was the cashier rushing me out of the doors, not allowing me to check my order. I spent about $25 on my meal, which I certainly regret spending at this establishment. I will not be returning, which is probably what they want anyway. If you are black, avoid this place like the plague, unless you want to be treated like blacks were treated during the Jim Crow era....
Read moreIn the local area visiting family and was taken here for dinner. Being from Chicago, I was skeptical about this place being authentic, as Chicago has incredible Mexican restaurants. First off the ambiance is great. The interior decoration and lighting worked very well and had a San Antonio vibe about it. The service was great. We were seated quickly and the wait staff was friendly and professional. I can't lie. I have had better Mexican food, but I wasn't disappointed in my meal. I had pretty nice portions and every one enjoyed what they ordered. I'd recommend the place to any looking for a good...
