Went in for a meal, Heard good things about the place before the reopening, My Girlfriend and Her mom had the fish and chips and said they liked it ok, but the service we had was pretty awful. It took a few minutes for the people working to stop arguing over whatever was going on in their personal lives and when they finally took our order they were curt and borderline rude with their responses to my order. I had a burger, and it was again. just Ok, the patty was frozen and the toppings were a bit lackluster. just some finely shredded lettuce a tomato and some sort of fry sauce for condiments. the cheese was processed and overall it was kind of a gross burger for the price. I don't reccommend going here unless you are really hungry. I went outside to talk with my girlfriend since we ordered it to go due to the seemingly hostile environment in the establishment, and after about 30 minutes i began to wonder why they hadn't given me any signal that it was done. it is a "drive in" after all. I kept looking in the sliding window and tried to catch an employee's eye for some sort of confirmation and after numerous attempts I finally noticed that the food had already been bagged and was sitting on the counter. mind you there was no one else inside as far as patrons are concerned and nothing was being actively cooked in the kitchen. but the two running the place were hiding in the back "talking"/"arguing" etc. I walked in grabbed my food and left without any sort of communication with...
Read moreWe went here when the previous owner still had it open. We loved it. The new owners....LOVE IT!!! LOVE IT!!! They did not disappoint!!! They took over the name, kept most of the menu, including the ice cream. And added their touch, as they should!!! Today, I had the single patty cheese burger with pastrami. AND LET ME TELL YOU....JUST YUMMMMM!!!!!! Now, I'm the type to have 'a little burger with my ketchup'. Don't ask, it's literally the only thing I like ketchup on. This is the first time in an extremely long time that I Have Not put one drop of ketchup on my burger!!! The burger is wrapped in this beautifully pleated wrap, pretzel bun I believe, shredded lettuce, onion, tomatoes, pickles, mayo, cheese, in house ground and pressed (yes, you read that right!!!) beef, and IN HOUSE SMOKED PASTRAMI!!!! No joke!!!! I took a bite, and I could not believe the explosion that was happening in my mouth!!! The most simple ingredients, but what brought it all together was the smoked pastrami!! The way that it was so perfectly smoked, it wasn't dry, it wasn't over powering, it was literally freaking perfect!!!!! I apologize for not taking pictures of the burger, I couldn't put it down! So there will be pictures next time I head there!!!!
King Neptune, Thank You for...
Read moreI have been to King Neptune twice and would give it 3.5 stars if I could. That being said, I will definitely still stop by from time to time!
Though the food is pretty good, I'm not quite sure you get what you pay for. I've had the 3 pc. fish & chips ($12.50) and The Pastrami Single burger with cheese ($11.50), which did not come with fries (or other) for that price. I feel as though the value may be fair for the fish but that this might not extend to some of KN's single sandwiches. Additionally, The Pastrami is not explicitly described as a burger on the menu, so I was a little surprised (but not disappointed). The pastrami component itself was tasty. :)
I waited a while for my food on both occasions, but I do only remember seeing one staff member, who was very nice! As of yesterday, there was a hiring sign posted on the door.
I give 3 stars for "Atmosphere" just because there wasn't much of one to note.
Overall, the King Neptune Drive In has some small drawbacks, but it's really not a bad place to eat. I'd love to...
