Last Sunday (9/7), I arrive at 12:55 pm. There were three bartenders (1 female, 2 male) and only three customers at the bar (me included). One of the male bartenders completely ignored me, so going forward, when I refer to the male bartender, it's always the one that at least acknowledged my existence. At 1:05 pm, I was finally acknowledged. The female bartender walked by. I said hi to get her attention. She said hi back and walked away. I raised my hands and shrugged in an obvious way, but she just ignored it. So, another 5 minutes pass, and a fourth customer sits next to me at the bar. The male bartender immediately takes his drink order and is making small talk with him. The entire time, I'm staring daggers at the male bartender. He finally acknowledges me and asked if anyone's helped me. I reply in an obviously frustrated voice, "No." He takes my drink order and gives me a menu. Both bartenders continue to ignore me as I try to flag them down. Not until 20 minutes later does the male bartender finally take my food order, which is 35 minutes after I arrived. He asks if I want to order anything, and of course I reply, "Yes," again in an annoyed tone. I order chicken strips/tenders. They don't arrive for 15 minutes, so yeah, we're about 50 minutes into my visit before my food arrives. By the time it does, of course I need a drink refill, so as the food is dropped off, I ask for one. It doesn't arrive until I'm finished eating (about 10 minutes later). I'm enormously frustrated, so I just want to leave. The female bartender walks by, and I ask if I can get my check. She says nothing; just nods. She comes back about 5 minutes later with check. How it takes that long to get me my bill is perplexing. She slaps it down on the table without saying a word. For context, the last time I was at a bar (Tuesday, three days later), I left a tip of over 50% of the tab because that's how I roll. But this time, I make sure to leave a $0 tip, which I hate doing, but hey, hate begets hate. I was treated like I had offended them, but that was impossible because they refused to interact with me in the first place, so I had no chance to offend anyone. I used to be a regular at this place. Now I'm finished with it. As...
Read moreWould not go again and would not recommend for anything more than a beer. I am not sure who or how they won awards for best wings/best in Loudoun county. It was an experience that left us wondering if Velocity Wings is the only wing place in Loudoun in order for it to be "recognized as the best wings in Loudoun" four years straight.
We got 4 different flavors of wings. The Carolina reaper (4/4 on their hotness scale) had less spice than Franks Red Hot or Texas Pete - zero exaggeration in that statement. If you had blind tested me I would literally have not known I was supposed to be tasting something spicy. The mango habanero sauce (3/4 on their hot scale) had no hint or flavor of habanero at all. My girlfriend described it as "it tastes like cheese sauce". The garlic wings were ok but basically just had minced garlic piled on. But I will give them credit that the chicken itself was very moist and fresh. It just was not flavored/seasoned well at all.
And several other small things added to the bad rating. One of the two plates we got was not clean. You can see in the photos that there are snail trails all over the plate like it barely got rinsed before it was brought back out.
They serve pepsi products, which I also think is inferior to coke products. Not sure if it was just how Mugg tastes or not, but it tasted like it had dish water in it.
The service was ok. I asked for Ranch and my girlfriend asked for blue cheese. We each got one of each with our wings instead of her wings having blue cheese and mine having ranch.
The atmosphere was normal bar atmosphere. They have a nice patio section for when it's warm. But I just cant get past the quality of the sauces for somewhere that is supposed to be award winning.
And why play games with the pricing? The price of the wings is not listed on the menu. Twenty wings was $30. With one soda and tip it was $40 for two people. This is not some exotic cut of rare meat that has been specially fed it's entire life and imported from across the sea; pick a price and put it...
Read moreStopped by here at the South Riding location, on a weekend afternoon on the way back. There's a gas station right next door, and I was low on gas. So coming back, I ordered burger to-go from the website I believe.
Ordered the Velocity Burger, w/ the free fries on side. I wish I could say it was decently priced, but honestly burgers these days are all over 10$ and it's hard to find a baseline to compare it to. It is nice that it included fries though.
Burger came with cheese, lettuce, tomato and a single beef patty. It was decent.
Fries were, likewise decent.
I got my to-go order but decided to dine in after all. I figured they were running a skeleton crew or something, and didn't seem to have a whole lotta customers, so I decided no one would mind after all.
I got me some napkins and ketchup packets, and just finished my lunch at the joint itself. Wish i could say it blew my socks off, but it was only decent. Filling, though. I will give points for that.
I enjoyed it, but not overmuch. Will I be back? Who knows. Maybe to a Velocity Wings in another location, and maybe when they have specials going on, on their burgers or wings or whatever's popular.
Would I recommend? I will say, im not the best person to ask here. I only had their signature burger combo and it was so-so. I recommend giving it a shot though. Who knows, I might be back...
