I am giving this place 3 stars out of truth and based purely on the food. The decor and style was nice and there is an outdoor seating area. It was clean and staff was friendly. On to the food... Let's begin, I have never been here before but passed it hundreds of times. We stopped in looking for something fresh and new. When you pass a sign that says "smoked and brewery", you automatically think how awesome it will be! Good times and great food, right? Hmm...so we get in fairly quick. (Saturday around 530) We are seated and ordered drinks and the corn and crab bisque. We also ordered some of the BEST Buffalo wings we have ever had! The bisque...was really good and probably would have been incredible if there had been crab in it. I write reviews honestly and without being judgmental on most issues. Maybe crab prices went up, I don't know, but still, don't say corn and crab bisque if there's no crab in it! It was so good. Like a taste of stuffing on Thanksgiving with a sweetness that was unexpected. Very good, just needed crab...Now...I am from TN (moved to Cape Cod, Ma) and pretty knowledgeable when it comes to BBQ. BBQ as in ribs, smoked or grilled, chicken, pulled pork, wings, steak...all of the above. I ordered the BBQ combo. Brisket, Pulled pork and Pulled chicken. They came hot and with cole slaw and garlic mashed potatoes. The were 2 different sauces on the meats. 1st, I don't know what kind of sauce I got but it had no BBQ flavor of any kind. 2nd. the brisket was absolutely the blandest and tasteless I have ever had. Norub or anything.. 3. There was 100% NO SMOKED FLAVOR AT ALL in any of these meats. NONE...NONE. The sauce was clumpy and thick and literally smothered the meat. 4. The meats listed were dry-ish. Meaning no juices, no flavor and yes, dry, I'll just say it. Please don't judge me here, I am being completely honest. It was just not good. The pulled chicken did have some type of BBQ sauce on it and it was ok. I ate that. The pulled pork...this was frozen and reheated. I know it was, I could taste it, don't tell me any different. I LOVE pulled pork and I crave it being on Cape Cod and I just never find a place with really good pulled pork. And that's ok. I will make it myself. But this was awful. I was so disappointed. My husband got the St. Louis ribs. He is a rib eater and we know ribs. These were hot, and huge! But as you will see in the picture, they were drenched with some sort of sauce. The ribs were not tender and they were "wet". Not wet like from the sauce or juices (there were none), just felt wet and sloppy. He ate 2 and we were both done. The server asked if we wanted a box, we declined and she honestly looked shocked. She asked again and we said no. We never make a problem for anybody at a restaurant. If we don't like it, we simply move on. I will review the place later and that's all you can do. We were not happy with the Moat but for the brewery part, yes, we got the sampler and ended up buying 4 of their made beers. We did like that. The garlic mashed potatoes were off the hook as well as the jalapeno cornbread. VERY GOOD!! The location is great and again, the staff were nice and helpful but the items we got for our entrée were not. I don't know what else to say. I hate writing poor posts for places but I think everyone should go on their own. Maybe we went on a slow day or a none smoker/grilling day. I don't know, but we wont be going back for a few years. ** EDIT: Someone reached out to us about this review. I will most definitely be stopping for another visit. We love this area and are happy to always give a place another shot! Especially with such great...
Read moreCame here after Storyland. We were starving. 4 adults, 2 kids. Put our food and beverage orders in right away because we were starving. Like, I'm talking, we looked at the menu and we were ready. Waitress was nice. She forgot one water, fine, she brought it. They don't serve pasta with butter, only Kraft Mac and cheese (everyone knows the ingredients are pasta, butter, milk, and cheese powder). Also fine, fries will work too for my kiddo. Took forty minutes for the food to come out. Maybe forty-five. This was not addressed with us until about thirty to thirty-five minutes into our wait. My toddler was yelling because she was hungry and cranky. Sorry baby, mommy doesn't know where the food is. It was only addressed with us because my pregnant body was so hungry and made direct eye contact with the waitress, which in turn flagged her down. She said "Shouldn't be too much longer for your food." When the food came....Some food was cold, some hot, some warm. The Kraft Mac and cheese with fries entree was a hot meal. It was actually too hot that she couldn't eat the fries and needed to eat the cold fries served to us. Cajun fries were oddly sweet for some reason. Not inedible. We all scarfed the food down. It remains unclear if the food was actually tasty or if it was because we were so hungry. Again, I'm pregnant, so had I not eaten I would've passed out if I had gone longer without food. We had already waited about 15 minutes for a table and then another 40-45 minutes for food. Anyway, when the food got dropped off the boy ran off so fast I had to yell "excuse me could I have some ketchup please?" In fear of no one coming back to our table. Not something I want to teach my child, but it was done, for that I'm sorry (the boy was about 16). We felt like hostages to a restaurant at one point. So while we ate, I gave the waitress my card to pay, again, out of fear no one would come back and we needed to go. We could do no more waiting. I'm not sure what happened here. Tables that were sat after us got their food before us. They were all parties of about 3-6 people. I saw a pregnant woman exit; she was smiling, satisfied and feeling great. I wanted to be that woman. But alas, I was not. I was frustrated, annoyed, attempting to be understanding of the situation but no one was understanding of ours. We watched a worker (supervisor/ manager) speak to the table next to us about how sorry he is that their pretzel bites never came out with their other appetizers. No one wanted to address anything with us and we needed to go home, so I signed my check and we left. The bathroom was also wet and the barrel was exploding with paper towels. This review is a reminder that we will not return to this place. Unless we do takeout because we have a craving for sweet Cajun fries and hot boxed Kraft...
Read moreStopped by MOAT Mountain Moat Mountain Smoke House & Brewing Co. in North Conway, NH for a couple pints & a 20oz pour of something seasonal to kick off October. My first time here in a few years I was definitely due to return & check it out for my page. I remember getting a eight piece flight & a BBQ platter last visit, which was all sooo damn good. The place was bumping with the patio completely full & a busy dining room, luckily I was able to score a couple seats at the bar. This place has been in operation since 2000, making it the states oldest Brewpub going over twenty-five years now. I recently had their VALLEY PASTIME IPA during a tasting which was really good & have always been a huge fan of the blueberry fruit beer so I was looking forward to scooping one of those right from the tit. There was a good selection of styles on including lagers, pilsners, browns, IPA's & more, but I went mostly festive with my three beers this visit. 🍻🍻🔥☘🍁
I started off with a pint of the OPA'S OKTOBERFEST Marzen which was a above average, sweet Marzen that was super easy drinking. My second pint was the delicious MS V'S BLUEBERRY Fruit Beer, a favorite of mine anytime I've had it over the years. My third beer of the visit was a 20oz pour of the excellent OMA'S FEST BIER Marzen which was awesome & had a great smooth caramel finish, my favorite of the two seasonal beers I had. 🍻🍻🍻🍁🍁
The restaurant is really large inside with multiple dining rooms & a decently sized bar. There is all the seating options inside with tables, hightops, bar seating & a good size patio area outside. The staff at the bar were all really friendly & I ran into a couple regulars from my previous serving job in Manchester, NH a year or so ago which was nice. The decor inside is fun to look at & there is plenty on the walls to check out. The parking lot was packed, but was big enough to still have no problem getting a spot. There was plenty of beer to go for home or tastings with friends later. Overall a great return trip & I'm sure I'll be making my way back in a few years hopefully for some of that bomb BBQ & more new beers. Cheers! 🍻🔥☘🤘✌♥️🍺
