Summer July update: It’s been a “hit or miss” with customer service. Some girls are wonderful (Brittany is sweet). Others are really uptight. I’ve never been to a coffee shop that’s been so inconsistent. I ordered the peach matcha (which I love!) but asked for a little lavender to be added to it (for my cramps). I was told “yes” that’s absolutely fine.. then I was mistakenly given coffee not matcha. So as a different girl remade my drink, she bossily said she couldn’t put the lavender in it. Even though I already ordered and paid for peach with lavender as I was told it was OK. Sometimes exceptions can be made, it’s not such a serious thing. I’ve been to CRAFT coffee shops across the city and they always just do what makes a customer happy.. this has never been an issue before. But she strictly said she wouldn’t do it.. (even though my drink was already made) they only needed to fix the mistake of making me coffee instead of matcha. But the girl argued that I couldn’t have what I paid for. Exhausting.
Spring Update: Met my father here recently to see if anything has changed.. and all of the seasonal flavors can be added to a matcha again! So they’ve won back a customer. I’ve been coming here weekly again. No other coffee house has made an issue before if I had a request but I’m happy they’ve worked this out! So I changed the rating.
Winter Update: This is the first time I’ve been told I couldn’t get a seasonal syrup added to a matcha. Last time I visited weeks ago, they did it for me. And every other “craft coffee shop” doesn’t mind. I don’t order coffee because it makes me feel unwell. I drove far to come here. Very disappointing. I emailed them and they said they are being strict with their policy. It’s not a school! It’s just a matcha so I hope they loosen up or I won’t return.
I love the atmosphere.. there’s different rooms and several seats to either read, study, or meet with others. It’s very calming with perfect lighting at night.. since it was a bit chilly we asked if the fireplace could be turned on and they...
Read moreA couple of months ago I stopped and ordered tacos and a latte from George’s for the first time. The shop interior was not open, so I used the window service. I was super impressed with the employee that kindly helped me, even though I was technically asking for tacos a few minutes AFTER the end of their published breakfast hours. Tacos were delicious with the house made salsa. Today I again found myself next to George’s for an appt., so I excitedly headed inside to get breakfast, but had forgotten about their breakfast cut off time. Unfortunately, I stepped up to the counter inside at 11:03 AM. This time my excitement immediately dissipated due to the less than friendly employee behind the counter. With no eye contact-she said “I’ll be with you in a minute.” She was working on a drink, so I get she was busy. I’m also a Barista and can do many things at once.. But come on...eye contact and/or a small welcoming smile, please? Nope. A minute later I asked if I could still get breakfast. Again, without making eye contact, or realizing their breakfast hour had ended, she said breakfast ended at 11 and pointed behind her to the clock...which then said 11:04. It appeared the two older gentlemen behind the counter (who may have been the owners) didn’t care to intervene and accept my order even though breakfast ended 3 min before I walked in, so I left. I guess the pandemic hasn’t affected them financially-so kudos to them. I will stop recommending the place to my friends-which I have been actively doing since my first visit:-/. I will give my money to other small businesses in the area that are struggling through this pandemic.
FOLLOW UP 6/21: The owner of the shop did reach out to me immediately and was sincerely apologetic for the service I received, Emphasizing that they strive to train their employees to be more welcoming and friendly. He asked how he could make things right and I told him he just did;) I will go back another time and give it...
Read moreI've been a regular at George for 8 years and there is a reason this place has a line 30 deep on weekends. Its by far my top choice within a 15 mile radius (better than Re-defined, which is also very good). Here's why:
The staff
You're greeted with a smile. They ask your name and remember it, along with your order. Service is prompt. If you're a regular, it won't take long for them to get to know and support you.
If you treat them with respect, they'll treat you like family.
Taco, Carly, Ethan, Jillian, Armando, Madelyn, Jessie, Tailor, Ashlyn, Amy and Hannah are why I keep coming back.
The atmosphere
If you want to work or catch up in a clean, cozy space, with plenty of natural light in an old wood townhome with calming music, and the vibrant ambiance of conversations you'll love it.
Spacious, different rooms and seating indoor/patio. Plenty of electric outlets. Get there early; spots fill up fast.
A great office if you want inspiration/energy.
The coffee and food
Really good quality and plenty of healthy options and substitutes if you care about what you put in your body. A tad pricey, but on par with rising costs around the metroplex.
Free water, rewards points.
Summary:
If you want $3 coffee with impersonal service or want to work in a small, dirty space, freezing space with no personality, check out Starbucks or 151 Coffee (nothing wrong with that).
If you are kind and don't mind being around good people in an awesome environment, you need to check out George!
It's not for everyone. But, it's perfect for a lot of us.
I love seeing familiar faces,...
