While they do not serve pronghorn here, I found this restaurant to be nonetheless excellent. The atmosphere at this establishment is modest, yet somehow elite. It is unassuming, but in a very real sense it assumes excellency in a way that transcends Arizona culinary expectations. The pizza I ordered here was the Vera Earl pizza and verily it was very valuable. I will point out a few things about the content and form of this dish. Most importantly the beef was superb. However, the presence of dill on the pizza seemed to me superfluous and detracted somewhat from the aura of simplicity which seems to permeate this restaurant. There was also lime on my pizza which, while not entirely unwelcome, left me feeling a little confused and disoriented. Pickled onions, adorned this elegant pie, and this avant-garde decision by the chef truly impressed me. It complimented the beef and cheese very well. Pizza dough is the rock upon which the foundation of all pizza is built, and the architects of this creation are thoroughly well trained in their craft. I was amazed by the light consistency and heavenly taste of this floury base of the dish. Finally, the service was excellent and friendly, with the exception of a large house cat named Speeder who completely ignored my party and ate his own lunch while we were waiting for ours. Overall, I would highly recommend this pizza place to any parties sojourning in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe stopped in on a Saturday afternoon to check this place out, and ended up having the best dining experience we've had in Arizona, bar none.
We shared a Simple Salad ($8.00) which very good. We also shared an Ian pizza ($17.50) which was extraordinary. The slightly sourdough-ish crust was perfect and the toppings (pesto, mortadella, burrata, pistachio, basil, chiltepin peppers, and copious amounts of olive oil) were a perfect blend of textures and tastes. We're not wine drinkers, but the food went down just fine with water.
The patio setting was great, and the service was exceptional. While you have to kind of plan your day around the 11-5 hours, we'll defs be back. Even if we have to make a special trip down from Tucson to do it!
Note that there's no outdoor sign for "Pronghorn Pizza." Look instead for "Dos Cabezas WineWorks" and a large screened porch with a new-ish concrete parking pad in front of the door. But there'll probably be a sign out by the highway that says...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOh. My. Gosh. I have food allergies and eating out when traveling is hard. I asked about options while we waited for a table so we had time to figure out what I could order. The gentleman working the host stand (whose name is didnāt catch but I presume is one of the owners/managers because he said his sonās name is one of the pizzas on the menu) went above and beyond to work with the kitchen to custom make a pizza safe for me! It was DIVINE and the most delicious things Iāve ever eaten. It had trout roe, creme fraiche, roasted poblanos, mushrooms, and I think some lemon zest⦠I ate the entire thing. Not being made to feel like a burden because of my allergies and instead having the kitchen be excited to play around and make me something really made me feel cared for. I cannot say enough good things about this place. Thank you thank you thank you. If Iām ever back in this town Iāll absolutely be...
