I am constantly amazed that quality wine can be made in Arizona, especially at 5000' elevation. We have been sampling wines in AZ for 7 years, and the boutique nature of the operations in the Sonoita/Elgin area makes it a real treat. Not too crowded, down to earth people, and gorgeous scenery. The winemaker/owner at Sunset Ride in Sonoita (tasting room only, winery is a few miles away), Chris, spent an hour or so with us as we went through most of his wines. A lot of Chris' wines are blends of interesting varietals, and most of his wines are 'delicate' in style-nothing with huge tannins, but more of the softer mouthfeels. Good cheese wine. I especially enjoyed his Sangiovese, his Cabernet and a red blend whose composition of three varietals and name escapes me.
The best part of our experience was sitting down with the winemaker and enjoying the fruits of his labor. We left with bottles of his Sangiovese and Cabernet. We...
Read moreWe've been here a few times, but this was the first time we got to meet the owners (Chris and Lori) and have a chat with them as the other times we were really doing a quick in-and-out to see some of the vendors that come in on the 2nd Saturdays.
We had such a wonderful time. Loved to listen to the story of how they setup the place and how they came about with the wine selection and the different blends. Their wines were very good (and smooth) and they also make some sandwiches that are really good (very tasty).
We highly recommend taking some time to sample their wine selection and if you get in during the 2nd Saturdays you get a bunch more of things to see as they also open the area for other...
Read moreIncredible service, and the food was amazing. We did a wine tasting and got the charcuterie board for 3-5 and it was not only a great deal with a wide assortment of food, but some of the best food I've ever tasted. I didn't think I'd like the jam and cream cheese dip, but it was one of the tastiest things we've ever had. The salami wraps with (I think) cream cheese and peppers were incredible. My son got the salmon sandwich which he loved and the wine was very good as well. Mozzarella sticks were very good, too. Thank you to Janet (and Lori, the owner who I later met at the Lavender Festival) for a wonderful day out...
