Great Beer, Food and Staff! Some friends of ours told us about this brewery and how much they enjoyed it so we gave it a shot. We liked it so much we've been there twice already and it's about an hour drive one-way for us. It's that good! It was a little rainy and chilly the first time we went, but sunny and warm the second. We enjoyed the weather, brew and food on the outdoor patio that has loads of seating and the donkeys in the pasture behind the brewery kept an eye on us. There is a prominent bar and mostly hi-top tables in the dining room, but some lower tables are available. No shortage of tap handles on this tap wall! 14+ beers to choose from on an impressive Beer Menu, mostly their own brews with some rotators. Here's what I've tried. The Nitro Oatmeal Stout, dark and rich, full flavored and smooth. Dunkelfest is a true German dark wheat bier with spice notes. The Vanilla Porter is very smooth and rich, just a little sweet with a good vanilla flavor. I only sampled the Mexican Stout which has plenty of chili spice in it to make you say Muy Caliente! A good one if you want to spice up your day. I also tasted the Cranberry Fig Porter and as the menu suggests, it is a good sipper. You can actually taste both the cranberries and figs. Very unique. My absolute favorite was the Spiced Winter Ale which happened to be on the Kill The Keg special - maybe $5. I have always enjoyed these winter spiced ales and this one delivered the aroma and taste of the spices perfectly. I was so glad I could get it on both visits. Now for the eats. The Chicharrons are to die for! They are fried to order and come out in a large basket, plenty for 4 people, STILL CRACKLING, seasoned just right. This was the first time I've had these fresh fried as opposed to in a bag and there is no comparison. No more bagged for me. I like a little hot sauce on mine and they accompany a cold beer perfectly. We weren't as impressed with the Chili Relleno Bites. A little like a deep fried egg roll that were ok, but we would try something else next time. Pozole was a special on one visit so I gave it a try and I'm glad I did. Served piping hot with shredded cabbage, lime, diced red onion and corn tortillas on the side. Once added to the Pozole, outstanding! Again, this portion could easily be for two. And our server - friendly, helpful, fun, willing to pose for and let me post her picture and I wish I could remember her name. Put her picture on your phone when you go in and ask for her. Take a drive to this small rural town and enjoy the brew and food at Copper Brothel.
Update 4-14-23 We made a trip to Patagonia State Park and couldn't go home without stopping here again. As luck would have it, the Noelle's Bare Skin Winter Ale, was still available and I had my share. We had to get the Chicharrons for a starter and just as before, they came out snap, crackle, popping and delicious. My wife ordered the Smokin' Cuban Sandwich ($16.99) with house made potato chips as a side. I chose a bowl of the Colorado Style Green Chile ($9.99). My wife raved about her sandwich. It had all the usual Cuban sandwich components, but swapped sliced pork loin with pulled pork. Great smoke flavor on crunchy pressed roll. The home made chips were crisp and tasty. My Chile had green chilies, tomatoes, and pork, served with warm tortillas on the side. It had just a little zip which I amped up with a little hot sauce. The cold beer was a perfect match for the Chile. Service was great and sitting out on the patio in the warm weather made for an...
Read moreThis was a memorably excellent dining experience for my wife and me! We decided to eat at the bar, because there was just a bit of a wait, we’re not the most patient people in the world, and we generally enjoy the interaction of the bar dining experience. We are so happy that we did choose the bar, because it was SO much fun!
In short, we were treated so well, the service was great, the food was excellent, the bar experience was a blast, and we enjoyed talking to other bar patrons.
The bartender, Monahsetah, did a terrific job. This charming young woman has a lot of skills - she was able to handle the workload of all the restaurant’s drink orders while still attending attentively to us (and the other bar patrons), and she has outstanding social skills. She was just so much fun to talk to, she did a GREAT job helping my wife navigate the (many) gluten-free food options, and she checked on us to ensure we didn’t need anything. We were particularly pleased that she not only knew to leave the croutons off the salad, but even noted the availability of a bottled GF beer. Not every bartender is good at balancing talking to bar patrons and handling drink (and food from the bar) orders, and Monahsetah did just that. She really helped us enjoy the dining experience.
Also, I liked the manager/proprietor walking around checking on people, he seemed to really care about his customers. We’re not locals, and we were treated like we’d been there before. Also, I saw all kinds of staff helping each other out, like servers taking dishes away from the bar, helping each other out with drinks, and so on. This place is a well-run operation.
The food was EXCELLENT. First of all, the salads were great (house in our case)- very fresh micro greens, sweet tomatoes, just the right amount of cheese, and an excellent tangy lemon vinaigrette dressing that also happened to be gluten-free. The burgers? The minute I bit into mine, I was in love. I could taste that char on the outside, and the delicious beef flavor. I went with American cheese but they have several cheese options, and just the right amount of lettuce and tomato, on a delicious, soft bun. Still thinking about it. My wife had the burger as well but on a good gluten-free bun, not one of those out-of-the-box Udi’s buns. AND - get this - the tater tots and the sweet potato fries are gluten-free because they bake them. My wife really enjoyed the tater tots.
Monahsetah provided guidance on a nice white table wine (local AZ “Provisioner”) as well as the salad dressing and we really enjoyed that, and she also made excellent mixed drinks. And we were able to have conversations with a few other bar patrons, which we enjoyed.
On top of everything else, the copper bar top is cool and obviously fits the theme, there’s plenty of space, if you don’t happen to be into beer but you want wine or spirits, no problem, they still have you covered - easily.
Between the food, the ambiance, and the interactive bar experience, we really felt part of the community here. This place is a big winner, and we’ll...
Read moreMy wife and I love riding our motorcycles in this area of Southern Arizona and we usually eat in Patagonia on Sunday mornings but this time we decided to try CBB on our way to Parker Canyon Lake. We arrived a little before noon and got seated on the back patio right away. The hostess warned us that there was only one server for the patio, but since we weren't in a hurry we decided to take the chance since the weather couldn't have been better. Despite the warning, the service was perfectly timed.
As mentioned, we rode motorcycles and have a strict no drink-and-ride philosophy so unfortunately I can not review the brewery offerings, but the drink menu looked very complete and enticing. Wish I could have imbibed, but it's not worth the DUI or RIP.
The menu was a mix of bar-food meets New Mexico (green chili) style Mexican at airport/tourist zone pricing. The $18 price-tag on the burger was a turn-off so we opted to split a mini chili relleno app and an enchilada dish. The mini rellenos were unimpressive and while the flavor of the chicken enchiladas was passable, it arrived lukewarm.
We were thankful that we arrived when we did because by the time we were leaving the restaurant was completely full with people waiting outside for a table, as if church just let out. Seems like a pretty ideal destination for geezer-biker clubs to ride to, so I suspect you will encounter large groups of leathered-up Hog riders there on the weekends, as we did.
I don't give 5 star reviews because I consider 5 stars "perfect", which should be close to impossible to achieve. I wanted to give this 4 stars because it really is a nice building, atmosphere and location. The service was just right, the beer menu was great and the food menu was okay. I realize you pay for the atmosphere, so despite the sticker shock of the prices, I understand about supply and demand and the line out the door explains the demand side. but $4 for a glass of milk for the kid just seems like Malibu beach price gouging. I had to knock it from 4 to 3 stars because the so-so food wasn't the right temp when it hit the table. Would I go again? Maybe? If the ride is the reason then this destination...
