Gogi Yaki Review: A Mix of Cravings Met — and Missed
Gogi Yaki is a Japanese-Korean fusion spot that offers a wide variety of dishes likely to satisfy your cravings from both ends of the spectrum. On our visit, we sampled the Beef Bulgogi, Chicken Teriyaki, Pork Bulgogi, the surprising Bulgogi Fries, and the unfortunately disappointing Chicken Gochujang Ramen Alfredo.
Let’s start with the portions — they’re generous, easily sharable or enough to leave you full if dining solo. That helps justify the slightly higher price point. The beef and pork bulgogi were flavorful and well-marinated, with decent quality meat. It wasn’t mind-blowing, but certainly satisfying. If you’ve had better, you’ll recognize it — but it’s far from a letdown.
Now for the standout: the Bulgogi Fries. This dish takes the idea of a bulgogi rice meal, swaps the rice for a mountain of fries, and tops it all with a drizzle of Japanese mayo. It’s indulgent, savory, and incredibly filling. Think loaded fries, but elevated with that sweet-salty bulgogi punch. Easily the highlight of the meal.
Unfortunately, the Chicken Gochujang Ramen Alfredo was a complete misfire. If you’ve ever had Shin Ramen, imagine draining it, tossing in the same flavor packet, some milk and cheese, and calling it a dish. It felt lazy, uninspired, and honestly a bit gimmicky. The flavor lacked depth, the texture was off, and the whole dish brought down the overall experience. It left the impression of a rushed fast-food experiment rather than a carefully thought-out fusion item.
Overall, Gogi Yaki shows promise — the staff are courteous, and there are dishes worth returning for, especially the Bulgogi Fries — but inconsistencies in execution hold it back. A solid 3-star experience that could’ve easily been a 4 or 5 if not for that ramen...
Read moreI wish I had taken pictures before I started eating. We got the takoyaki, pork dumplings, chicken teriyaki dinner and pork bulgogi with some soju. This place was great. The care they took in the interior design of it was really cool. Nice Korean accents and the light panels above our heads were so cool. Lots of drink options to choose from as well that are either on the soda machine or in the fridge next to it. It was also extremely clean. You can tell the employees really care about the place and food. The service was great! We ordered at the counter and took a seat. You get your own silverware and stuff next to the drinks so you don’t have to wait or anything. They brought our food out so quick, I’ve waiting longer for fast food than I did for all 4 things I ordered. The crazy part was you could tell it was cooked fresh, not just heated up. It was all delicious, my wife even finished all of her which she usually will only eat half and take the rest home. The entrees came with a little extra side of kimchi and corn salad which was a nice surprise! Also, a small thing that really stood out was how high quality their water cups were. I know that sounds so irrelevant but those cups were just another way this place shows how much they’re putting into the business. The only 3 things I said of criticism while I was there were “I was they had the Jinro Soju”, “I wish it was a little darker in here” because it was really bright, and “I hope they put a sampling appetizer on the menu” so you can try more of their stuff in smaller portions. Overall it was a really great experience and not only will we be back, I will be encouraging others to go. See...
Read moreMy wife and I came here for the first time today. We arrived at about 12:30 and there was plenty of seating. You order from up at the front counter, we grabbed a menu and took it to our seats so we could review the menus better. I got the spicy pork Bulgogi with blackened rice and it came with a side of miso soup and some pickled vegetables. The food came out in about 10 minutes. The Bulgogi was good, but there was no heat to it. I questioned the wait staff about this, they said it was served with a low heat, but if you wanted more, you could always ask for extra spicy. For something that was called spicy I would still call this mild. Next time I will ask for extra heat and see how that comes out. The blackened rice doesn’t add any extra flavor, but it does add color. The miso soup was good and I did enjoy the small side of pickled vegetables. The egg that came with the meal was a hard boiled egg, not what I expected. Normally you get a soft boiled egg at a lot of Asian restaurants, but that was just my expectations and not really an issue. My wife had an order of the dumplings and an order of the egg rolls, both of which I tried. Both were very good and I would certainly order them again. Overall, we had a good experience experience here and we look forward to coming back and try...
