Working through a list of all diners in LA County and next up was Lisa’s. It’s a cash only, classic little diner over in West Covina. All these Route 66 diners have such a great history to them and most have great food as well. Inside is quite small, but they have booth and counter seating available, as well as some larger tables for larger groups. They don’t have outdoor seating. Our server was very polite and everything that we ordered came out pretty fast. They don’t have a lot of traditional items on their menu but still have a lot of good options. Pricing is also very fair, I find that the places that are cash only tend to be less expensive because they don’t have to deal with credit card fees. There’s also a free, large parking lot right out front so parking is really easy.
As always, I started off with a cup of coffee and I was happy to see that these come in huge mugs and it is very strong. After two full cups I had a lot of energy and was ready to tackle my day. Given that they don’t have a lot of traditional items on their menu I decided to try one of their specialties, which is the Full Attack. It’s basically two biscuits with sausage and egg on top covered with gravy and honestly I thought it was really good. This is something that I never order so it was nice to try something new and I would recommend it.
Overall I would recommend, especially if you are in the West...
Read moreAfter reading the great reviews we decided to give this small cafe a try for breakfast. Upon arrival it’s a nice small cafe with a great atmosphere. Love the interior decor and classic homely feel.
Service was good, we were seated quickly and attended to promptly. BUT the food is what we came for.
Food: We ordered red chilaquiles with potatoes & scrambled eggs.
I ordered the chicken fried steak with hash browns and biscuit with gravy.
The good: The chicken fried steaks and biscuits with gravy were very good. The steak was a really small portion but the quality was there.
The bad: everything else was pretty bad today. The chilaquiles were overcooked tortillas and the sauce lacked flavor but did a have a good spice. Really dry dish that was a 4/10 The country potatoes were ok if you picked out the ones that weren’t burnt. The hash browns were not fresh, they were a bit cold and soft textured. I was hoping for a crispy hash brown :( The eggs were meh, over medium egg was really runny and undercooked for my preference. And the scrambled egg was good. Hard to screw that up.
All in all we will not be coming back here, overpriced for the quality you get. The simplest things did not deliver. I hope it was a fluke because the reviews are great. I left a...
Read moreWe went there on November 19th,2021. We wanted to try a new place in our area and we are so glad we did. We loved the old diner ambiance of this place. We had fun viewing all the license plates and recalling the states we have been to. The service there is just excellent!!!! The staff is very attentive and friendly. The food was so delicious! My daughter had the green chili platter breakfast and I enjoyed the French toast breakfast. My French toast was perfect! Soft inside. Lightly crisp outside. The flavor was just full of cinnamon and vanilla perfection! My scrambled eggs were cooked soft and fluffy. I asked for a little added cheddar cheese in mine and they give a generous amount. My bacon was was cooked just right and had a very nice flavor. My daughter loved everything on her platter and said it was the best green chili she has had in many years. She claimed the pork was tender and juicy and the flavors and spice amount were fantastic. The prices are very reasonable. We will be keeping this on our list of favorite breakfast...
